A balance attack and solid defense helped the Arlington Lady Tigers leave the William Osteen Gymnasium still in first place and unbeaten in District 14-3A. On Jan. 27, Hunter Gremore’s Lady Tigers held the host Millington Lady Trojans to one field in the first half leading to a 53-15 victory. Meanwhile Arlington had several players contribute in the scoring column including Raegyn Branch, Tori Sewell, Cheiyanne Norton and Nakia Grandberry. “If you look at the book, we had 9, 8, 7 and 9,” Gremore said. “No one in double figures, everybody chipped in. That’s how we’ve been playing. Everyone does their role. We never have just one player stepping up. It’s some one new every night. “People can’t key in on one player,” he added. “They can’t double team Raegyn or Tori. We always had somebody else step up. It’s been efficient for us.” The win over Millington improved the Lady Tigers to 6-0 in league play and 18-7 overall. In those 18 victories, Arlington owns wins over the rival Bartlett Lady Panthers in a thriller and the Northpoint Lady Trojans, one of the best teams in the state. Gremore said throughout the season his team has followed the philosophy of ‘one game at time.’ The next up was a trip to Flag City to take on the Lady Trojans. Behind the combo of Branch and Sewell scoring 4 points each, Arlington jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first quarter. Millington only received a pair of foul shot from Glenda Garner. The junior standout hit two more free throws in the second quarter. By that time Arlington was ahead 20-4. Lady Tiger Callie McMorran got the hot hand hitting a couple of three-pointers. By the time Lady Trojan Traci Clark hit a layup Arlington was on its way to a 26-6 halftime advantage. Throughout the second half, the Lady Tigers kept the intensity up on defense and sharing the wealth on offense outscoring Millington 27-9. “We want to be a one seed,” Gremore said. “We go a game at a time. We’ve had this goal all season long. And these girls have been good going about it.
“The chemistry is really good,” he concluded. “That’s the thing I’m most proud of with this team. And they don’t look ahead. I don’t want to jinx us, but we do the same thing every night. It’s one game at a time.”
