The Munford Lady Cougars under the guidance of Head Coach Steve Poindexter have been making strides and progressing in a positive direction.

As January was concluding, the Lady Cougars needed a litmus test to see if they could make a run in District 13-3A and the upcoming postseason. The test was the Dyer County Lady Choctaws and their presence in the Munford Gymnasium Jan. 26 was going well for Munford in the early moments.

The Lady Cougars held the led throughout the first quarter and took a 14-10 advantage into the second quarter. The game remained close by the conclusion of the first half but Dyer County turned up the defensive pressure in the third quarter holding the Lady Cougars scoreless for more than 5 minutes in the period. Dyer County emerged from the contest with a 52-39 victory.

The Lady Cougars matched the Dyer County defensive intensity through the first 16 minutes while making some timely shots courtesy of Maiya Reed, Ciara Spence, Shelby Kendrick and Brezia Cooper. Then DC Head Coach Derek McCord employed his guards to trap Munford ball-handlers the entire length of the court.

The “ball pressure” created Lady Cougar turnovers and interrupted the flow of the Munford offense. The Lady Choctaws pulled away with fast break baskets to earn the league victory.
