On Aug. 29  the Millington Central High School Library’s held the grand opening of Coffee. Table. Book.

At 7 a.m. thing started percolating, student were lining up to get coffee, tea, and even hot chocolate and the barrista behind it all Shirey Szalay.

“I’ve always been interested for the few past years,” said Szalay, the MCHS librarian. “And if you go to a bookstore like Barnes and Noble they have coffee available there.”

Szalay wanted to bring a more intimate atmosphere to MCHS with CTB. “Everybody kind of looks so comfortable sitting down drinking a cup of coffee, reading a book and honestly I just wanted something that would get more students in the library.”

The veteran librarian’s main goal with the coffee stop is to bring more students into the Library to read book. A variety of beverages and occasional snack are some of the attractions that will bring students one step closer to a wide array of literature.

“Because I feel if they come to the library for whatever reason they may leave with a book,” she said. “We have a pretty-decent variety of regular coffees, different roast, flavored coffees. We also got four different kinds of tea, including chai latte, and we have hot chocolate. Truthfully because I’ve had the idea for a while, it came together fairly-quickly.”

Szalay has the support of administration and backing from some community members. She hopes CTB will become a part of MCHS and Millington traditions.

“After I got the final approval from the Principal Mr. (Mark) Neal it took me a week to 10 days to get everything purchased and here and the opening planed,” Szalay said. “Mrs. Karroll Warberg who is a fabulous human being has donated for us today.

“So she provided those and I purchased everything else and it came together pretty quickly,” she concluded. “I’ll it do as long as people will come and buy. I will have it here.”
