Dyersburg State landed one of the best baseball players in West Tennessee with the signing of Brighton’s LaDarius Williams.
One of the leading hitters and pitchers on the Cardinals roster, Williams has been winning awards and honors since his days as a youth league player in Tipton County. Today in the Brighton Gymnasium Williams inked his national letter of intent to play for the Dyersburg State Eagles and Head Coach Robert White.
The Brighton slugger and ace was joined by White and his Assistant Coach Jonathan Taylor for the signing. Also present were the members of the Brighton Cardinal team and Head Coach Michael Wickersham.
Some of the family members in attendance were his parents Marc and Beverly Williams and his older brother Heath. The elder Williams was a standout pitcher for the Cardinals under former Head Coach Brian Oswalt helping the Cardinals win the District 13-3A title.
Coach Wick said LaDarius will be a key piece if the 2016 Cardinals hope to achieve that feat. Williams plays first base and takes to the mound during district games. He bats near the top of the lineup hitting for power and average.
White said he is looking at Williams as an everyday player for his Eagle program.
Coach White has led the Dyersburg program for more than 15 years. He led the Eagles to a first national ranking of 15th during the 2008 season and has been nationally ranked multiple times since.
As the Skipper of the DSCC baseball program, White has sent more than 150 players to the next level, including schools such as University of Kentucky, University of Southern Mississippi, Southwest Missouri State University, Arkansas State University, Tennessee Tech, Austin Peay, Morehead State, Oral Roberts University and several ranked Division II and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics programs.
