Cleate Andrew Davis

Officials responded to a vehicle on fire last Thursday near Millington.

When Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies and other personnel arrived on the scene, an investigation of a body found in the burning pick-up truck began on Mudville Road.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office a witness saw the pick-up on fire just after 4 p.m. last Thursday in the 7800 block of Mudville Road. The truck was in a ditch and first responders found a body inside with it being unclear if it was a male or female.

The body was found in the passenger side of the pick-up. Shelby County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Chip Washington said the situation is considered suspicious. Washington said he is unsure of the body was dead before the pickup caught fire.

The Millington Fire Department extinguished the pick-up truck fire in 10 minutes.

“Millington Fire Department came, put the fire out in a few minutes,” Washington said. “As they were checking things they found a body inside the truck.

“It’s pretty well charred and from what I understand it’s going to be awhile before they can determine the identity of the victim,” he added. “It is considered suspicious right now. Until we can make a determination from the medical examiners perspective, then we’ll obviously know more.”

On Monday, authorities in West Tennessee identified the burned body found the truck as 51-year-old Cleate Andrew Davis. Authorities are continuing to investigate the case. To assist the investigation, call CrimeStoppers at 528-CASH.
