Members of the Tipton County Commission on Aging Tappers perform a number at the monthly Young at Heart meeting at Clopton United Methodist Church in Brighton.  The Young at Heart seniors thoroughly enjoyed the Tappers performance. 

Month of December The Kiwanis Club of Millington annual Christmas Tree Sales began recently. Sales location is the Millington Farmers Market and Kiwanis members are present from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Sales will continue until all trees are sold. All proceeds go back into the community for various service projects. Projects include scholarships for a Millington Central and Munford high schools graduating senior, support for the annual Christmas Basket program, the Millington Crisis Center, Boy Scouts, Ronald McDonald House, Hope House – just to name a few.

Kiwanis International includes more than 8,000 clubs with nearly 400,000 members in more than 85 nations. This past year, Kiwanis clubs donated more than $100 million and almost 6 million volunteer hours for community-service projects.

The Millington Lions Club meets at Olympic Steakhouse in Millington every second and fourth Tuesday at noon. The Lions Clubs work around the world for visually impaired and hearing impaired. The public is welcome to join the Club members and to make additional inquiries.

Stay fit and active with low impact senior exercise class offered Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Baker Community Center Room 5. The classes are free and for more information, call 873-5770.

Millington Airport Authority Board of Commissioners Meetings are scheduled at 3:30 p.m. every third Tuesday at Millington Regional Jetport. For more information, call 873-5796.

Jordan’s Thrifts, Gifts & Java located at 6646 Highway 51 North by Plantation Oaks Hotel will be starting classes on Jan. 6 from 6-8 p.m. for the following classes: Domestic Violence, Shelter from the Storm (Overcoming Sexual Abuse) and Celebrate Recovery (Overcoming Addictions). Tops (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly)  meets every Friday at the Baker Community Center from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at Millington Community Center. Come join the group to have fun. For more information, call Doris Landerman at 573-8536.

The Exchange Club of Millington meets at Old Timer’s Restaurant in Millington at noon every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Guest are always welcomed. For more information, call 872-8888.

SOULOUT Ministries’ Hot Nutritional Meals are served every Thursday at the Baker Community Center from noon to 1 p.m. The program is affiliated with Dream Interfaith Ministries and all donations are tax deductible. For more information, call program founder/coordinator Carol Jenkins 949-1675.

Dec. 5-6, Dec. 13
Come by the Millington Family YMCA on Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., for our Annual Christmas Craft Fair  which features edible goodies, crocheted and knit items, jewelry and more for sale. Then on Saturday, Dec. 13 start early and participate in our Santa Swim by swimming one mile. The nursery will be available. Dec. 6
The city of Millington Christmas Parade will be on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014 (rain date Dec. 13). The parade route will travel along Navy Road from Newport to C Street. Trophies will be awarded for The Holly Award – the most festive equestrian group, The Jolly Award – the most spirited marching group, The Mistletoe Award  – the finest float, The Sugarplum Award – the merriest school group, The Joyous Award  – the best marching band. The 2014 Munford Christmas Parade will be held at 4:30 in Munford. For more information on the route and participants, visit www.munford.com

Winter Wonderland Festivities will be held Saturday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at 7638 Marvin Road with neighbors and friends invited. Take a picture with Santa or sing along with Victorian carolers and greeters. There will be hot chocolate, apples, oranges, candy and popcorn. The event is sponsored by the Lewis family and relatives. There will be a neighborhood Christmas Decoration and Lighting Contest. No entry fee and pick up your entry at the Winter Wonderland. Judging will be Dec. 20 between 5 and 6 p.m. The competition is sponsored by Audrey and Barney Lewis. For more information, call 873-0131.

Dec. 11
The National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 1382 meeting and annual Christmas luncheon will be held at noon, Thursday at Old Timers Restaurant in Millington.  The installation of the 2015 Officers for the chapter will also be conducted.  For more information, call Carolyn Cribbis at 413-7123.

Dec. 13
Munford Baptist Church presents Christmas Village 2014 on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. It is a family event for all ages and admission is free. Come and visit the Magical Christmas Village that will include music, snacks, and village shops where children can create Christmas crafts. Children will have a blast inside the indoor snow area. Upper Canaan M.B. Church located at 9090 Highway 51 North will have its last Clothes-Give- Away for the year on Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. until noon. Everyone is invited to shop during these hours. There will be an assortment of clothes, socks, shoes,jewelry,  small appliances, some furniture, accessories, household and Christmas items. Minister Julius Hawkins is the pastor.
