Building relations with those who share interests and experiences the Millington Senior Citizens Club at Baker Community Center has brought people together since the early 1960s. “It is really a good way to meet new people and form great relationships,” Club Vice President Eugene Leech said. “We all have such a good time together.” The group of elders meets at 10 a.m. Wednesdays in the Baker Community Center for meetings and social events. The group has entertainment every Wednesday. With about 100 members in the club, Leech said many venture from as far away as Tipton County and the Memphis areas. “A lot of people have found out about us from friends who were current members,” Leech said. “We always greet new people.” Although the club includes members from many different religious denominations, Leech said the group supports one another and families by prayers and hospital visitations. The Frayser/Raleigh Singers entertained the Millington seniors recently at the Baker Community Center. They sang songs that brought back memories for some of the seniors, and they also performed gospel songs.
Month of December
The Kiwanis Club of Millington’s annual Christmas Tree sales began Nov. 29. The sales location is the Millington Farmers Market. Kiwanis members will be present from 4-8 p.m., Monday-Friday; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday; and from 1-6 p.m. on Sunday. Sales will continue until all trees are sold. All proceeds go back into the community for various service projects. Projects include scholarships for a Millington and Munford High School graduating senior, support for the annual Christmas Basket program, the Millington Crisis Center, Boy Scouts, Ronald McDonals House, Hope House-just to name a few. Kiwanis International includes more than 8,000 clubs with nearly 4000,000 members in more than 85 nations. This past year, Kiwanis clubs donated more than $1,000 million and almost 6 million volunteer hours for community-service projects.

City of Munford, The recycling container is located at the south end of Haddad’s Department Store parking lot on Crigger Circle. Only newsprint, corrugated cardboard and plastics are collected at this site. Additional materials are collected at the Tipton County Recycling Center located at the landfill on Highway 51. Computers may be recycled free of charge at Expertek, 70 Munford Avenue.

Christmas Time at the Y. Come by the Millington Family YMCA on Friday, Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., for our Annual Christmas Craft Fair which features edible goodies, crocheted and knit items, jewelry and more for sale.
Dec. 7
The Millington Christmas Parade is held the first Saturday of December at 3 p.m. The parade begins at Bill Knight and Newport, continuing north on Newport, right onto Navy Road, right onto Church Street, and right onto Bill Knight. There is a theme for each year’s event, which annually features more than 50 entries. Trophies are awarded for the best entries.

Individual entries are to bring 1 new, unwrapped gift and 3 to 4 new, unwrapped gifts for organizations. Gifts will be given to Toys for Tots to distribute to those in need at Christmastime.

The First Assembly of God Church in Brighton located at 1422 Old Highway 51 with Pastor Keithel Boothe and Music Director Cindy R. The Millington Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual gala Dec. 10 at the Holiday Inn & Express at 6 p.m. in Millington. The theme is Denim & Pearls. There will be food, fun and fellowship. The National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 1382 meeting and annual Christmas luncheon will be held at noon, Thursday at Old Timers Restaurant in Millington. On Saturday, Dec. 14 start early and participate in our Santa Swim by swimming one mile, the nursery will be available, all proceeds go to children programming in the Millington community area. Munford Baptist Church presents Christmas Village 2013. The public is invited to a magical Christmas Village. The Christmas Village will include music, snacks, and village shops where children can create Christmas crafts. There will also be an indoor snow area. Upper Canaan M. B. Church located at 9090 Highway 51 North in Millington will have a Clothes-Give-Away Saturday, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. An assortment of clothes and shoes for male and female adults as well as for children of all ages will be available. Accessories such as jewelry, belts, hats, scarves and gloves will be also be given. Household items (comforters, draperies, lamps ,etc.) along with toys and Christmas ornaments/decorations will be included. Pastor Julius Hawkins and members are asking all who can and will to come.
