The Atoka Dixie Youth Softball will host the DSI World Series for the Angels and Debs division. There is a 2014 sponsorship program available with four levels. Jordan’s Thrifts, Gifts & Java located at 6646 Highway 51 North by Plantation Oaks Hotel will be starting classes on Jan. 6 from 6-8 p.m. for the following classes: Domestic Violence, Shelter from the Storm (Overcoming Sexual Abuse) and Celebrate Recovery (Overcoming Addictions). Boston butts are on sale for $30 as a benefit fundraiser for the Bruce Potter Memorial Scholarship Fund. Call Munford Police Department at 837-5980 to reserve yours today. Pick-up will be March 8. The Bruce Potter Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to help any senior who wants to pursue a career in Criminal Justice. Office Potter was a reserve with the Munford Police Department when he was struck with a terminal brain tumor. Unfortunately Office Potter lost his battle in March of 2013. The Bruce Potter Memorial Scholarship Fund was conceived in honor of Office Potter in hopes that others might be able to extend his love and appreciation for his community and the criminal justice field.

City of Munford, The recycling container is located at the south end of Haddad’s Department Store parking lot on Crigger Circle.  Only newsprint, corrugated cardboard and plastics are collected at this site.  Additional materials are collected at the Tipton County Recycling Center located at the landfill on Highway 51. Computers may be recycled free of charge at Expertek, 70 Munford Avenue.

A Benefit Fish Fry will be held on March 8 at Embury UMC 2060 Locke Cuba Road in Millington for Lorrie Beth Caldwell Leach. The serving will start at 3:30 p.m. with a menu of catfish, French fries, hush puppies, cole slaw, corn bread, ice tea, coffee and dessert. All proceeds will go to Lorrie Beth Caldwell Leach. The Millington Book Chat Club will meet at 7 p.m. at the home of Mr. Tommy Hurdle. The program will consist of former Millington resident Catherine Wright-Taylor and her husband Douglas speaking about their lives as artist, writers and collaborating on a book. For more information, call, 872-7812.

Doyle Baseball Academy Returns to Millington for the fourth consecutive year. Millington Arts Recreation and Parks will be hosting the nationally recognized Doyle Academy on March 1. America’s No. 1 Camp will instruct baseball and softball players between the ages of 6 and 15 in hitting during the one day school. The school will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the Biloxi Ballpark. Doyle Baseball, in its 35th year of operation, conducts Satellite Schools all over the country and into Canada. More than 800,000 players have benefited from Doyle’s expert instruction. Thousands of players have gone on to collegiate careers as well as numerous players into professional baseball. Doyle Baseball utilizes a step by step teaching approach that allows every player to improve and build confidence. The Doyle program is a result of continuous research and development and has constantly been improved to provide the best instruction for young players everywhere. Register early and save on tuition for the Doyle Baseball Academy by Feb. 24. After that, the fee will increase. S.A.F.E. Class
This is a free Self Defense Awareness & Familiarization Exchange Program for women only ages 15 to 90-plus being held Friday, Feb. 28 from 6-9 p.m. at Atoka Senior Center. Pre-registration is required.

SYS Track Sign-ups
Shelby Youth Sports Track & Field registrations are underway on Tuesdays and Thursdays during February from 6-8 p.m. at Exline’s Pizza in Millington located at 8507 Highway 51 North. Practice starts Feb. 20 with the location to be determined. The first track meet will be on March 22 with the season ending the last week in May. There are fees; cost $135 and covers $55 SYS fee; $40 program fee for trophy/banquet; and $40 uniforms. Millington Police vs. Millington Fire Softball Challenge will be held April 26 at 3 p.m at the First Baptist Fields. This is the second annual challenge and the public is welcome with free admission.
