The Spring Session of KICKS in now in session at West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church. KICKS stands for Kids In Christ the King and is a youth based program that meets on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. Included is a meal, followed by worship, crafts and recreation. There is a fee. Tickets are now available for the locally-made movie “Awakening Of A Troubled Mind” third showing. The first two showing have old out. The movie will be screened at Studio On The Square on Thursday, March 12 and there will be ab addition showings with the 7 and 9 p.m. The third showing will be on March 16 at 7 p.m. at the same location. The Millington Lions Club meets at Olympic Steakhouse in Millington every second and fourth Tuesday at noon. The Lions Clubs works around the world for visually impaired and hearing impaired. The public is welcome to join the Club members and to make additional inquiries.

West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church is inviting all to their Sunday morning worship services. The subject of the worship services during January, 2015, is Stewardship. Rev. James Hamblin will be delivering the message each Sunday morning at 11 a.m.

What’s The Buzz All About — at Temple United Methodist Church located at 4404 Sykes Road in Millington, the church will be hosting an educational program on Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. about bees. The Bartlett Bee Whisperer will be here to tell the public where the bees are going, the health benefits of honey, how bees benefit humans and our environment, as well as providing information about how to become a beekeeper. There is no cost and its open to the public.

Feb. 14
The Millington Family YMCA will have it’s annual “All in Plunge” in the outdoor pool, Saturday Feb. 14. The program will start at 10 a.m., followed by the plunge. The plunge is a kick off to the YMCA Annual Campaign which helps the Y send kids to camp, provide after school care to working families and memberships to healthy living for families in need. Participants will receive a T-shirt and light breakfast provided by Old Timers Restaurant. Come take the plunge or just watch. Feb. 21 Baseball, Softball & T-Ball registration: Sign-ups for our upcoming baseball, softball and T-ball season have started. Last day to sign up is Saturday, Feb. 21. Here are the particulars: There is a cost per child. If you do not register by Feb. 21, there will be a $20 late fee per family and you will not go back to the same team that you were on the year before. Ages: 4-17. Whatever your child’s age is on April 1 will determine what league he/she plays in. Boys T-Ball: 5 & 6 Girls T-Ball: 5 & 6 Boys Coach Pitch: 7 & 8 Girls Coach Pitch: 7,8 & 9 Boys Pee Wee: 9 & 10 Girls Junior Softball: 10-13 Boys Junior Baseball: 11-13 Girls Senior Softball: 14-17 Practices start in March. Games will begin in May & finish up in July. If you are interested in being a coach, please sign up. However, you are not guaranteed to be a head coach just by signing up. There will be a players’ fundamental clinic for both baseball and softball at USA Stadium on Saturday, April 18. Area high school baseball and softball coaches will provide instruction for boys & girls ages 7-14 from 9 am-noon on this day. Cost is $10 and you can register at Baker Community Center at 7942 Church St in Millington. You can sign up at the same time that you register for the upcoming season if you wish. Returning in 2015 – April 10 & 11 in Atoka
After a very successful years, the Atoka BBQ Fest will be back again in 2015. The contest will take place in Atoka on April 10 and 11. It will be located at Nancy Lane Park, 118 Atoka Park Ave., on the South side of the Park. The contest will again be sanctioned by the Memphis Barbeque Network, featuring Pro and Challenger divisions. New for 2015, is the Kids Cook-Off, don’t forget to check it out. All of the great live music, family entertainment, and vendors will be back again.
