The 2016 officers for the National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 1382 of Millington were inducted Jan. 21 at the monthly NARFE meeting.  Pictured from left are Russell Palmer (treasurer), Martha Forest (secretary), Donald Smith (vice president) and Dorothy Bolden (president).  NARFE meets at 11:30 the third Thursday of each month at Ryan’s. Month of January
The Millington Lions Club meets at Olympic Steakhouse in Millington every second and fourth Tuesday at noon. The Lions Clubs works around the world for visually impaired and hearing impaired. The public is welcome to join the Club members and to make additional inquiries.

The Millington Optimist Club meets at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday of the month at Pig N Whistle located at 6084 Kerrville Rosemark Road. For more information, call George Crews at 872-4232 or e-mail [email protected]

The Millington Quilters Guild meets every Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Maple Room located at 7942 Church Street. Weekly activities and projects are developed for all levels of quilters. This group makes several items to give back to groups such as veterans, families in need, those injured overseas, and children’s hospital’s.

Millington Airport Authority Board of Commissioners Meetings are scheduled at 3:30 p.m. every third Tuesday at Millington Regional Jetport. For more information, call 873-5796.

The Exchange Club of Millington meets at Old Timer’s Restaurant in Millington at noon every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Guest are always welcomed. For more information, call 872-8888.

Soul Out Ministries’ Hot Nutritional Meal are served every Thursday at the Baker Community Center at 7942 Church Street from noon to 1 p.m. The program is a local non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible. Sarge’s Okinawan Freestyle Martial Arts will started April 1 at Baker Community Center in Millington. The American Wado-Ryu Federation International Hall of Fame Inductee Shihan R.L. “Sarge” Covin will be the instructor on Monday and Wednesdays from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The classes are free for children ages 5-18. The Quarterly Fourth Sunday Fellowship Youth Rally will be hosted by Church Street Church of Christ in Millington Jan. 30 at the Baker Community Center located at 7942 Church Street. Bro. Feb. 1
February meeting of the Lucy Garden Club will be held Feb. 1. The guest speaker will be Jim Volgas, one of only a few Certified Arborist in the Mid-South and extremely knowledgeable on soil health.  He is a Life Member of the Shelby County Master Gardeners Association.  His presentation will be “Soil Preparation”.   If you are veggie grower and/or have flower beds, the information Jim will be providing will be useful to us all. The Club  meets at the Lucy Wedding Chapel at 6185 Chase Road in Millington.  The meeting starts promptly at 6:30 p.m. with the guest speaker followed by refreshments and than the business meeting.  All neighbors in North Shelby County and the surrounding communities are invited to attend this free presentation.  For more information, call Tom Mashour at 872-3593 or 337-0046.

Millington Composite Squadron will be hosting its annual Awards Ceremony on Monday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. to recognize the service and achievements of area members over the past year.  The event will be held in the Baker Community Center Auditorium, 7942 Church Street in Millington.  It is free and open to the public. Millington Composite Squadron is a unit of the Civil Air Patrol, the Auxiliary of the United States Air Force, and is one of the largest in the state.  Established in 1941 and recognized by Congress for its wartime contributions, the Civil Air Patrol  is responsible for conducting about 80% of all inland search and rescue missions in the United States.  Although the focus of CAP is aviation related searches, the organization also conducts aerial photography for various government agencies during flooding, fires, and storm damage.  Ground teams also assist in disaster relief missions and missing persons searches. UCF Church Giveaway
United Christian Fellowship Church is donating a small organ to the Millington/Tipton County/Memphis communities. The organ is in good condition and is free if the patron can move it themselves. Month of February
‘Brighton AYSO is now accepting applications for the spring season of soccer. Open to all children ages 4- 18. Please pre-register online at www.eayso.org. Printed applications and payment can be dropped off at the Old Brighton High School at 66 School Street, Brighton, TN on one of the following days: Jan. 30th or Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. or Feb. 2, 4, 9, or 11 from 6- 8 p.m. There is a fee and includes a jersey, socks, a medal and soccer insurance.
