Larry Henderson, Tennessee Federation President presented Donna Briggs an award as one of the top NARFE recruiters in the state of Tennessee for the period between the 2012 and 2014 NARFE Conventions. This award was presented at the NARFE meeting held Jan. 15 at Old Timer’s Restaurant.

The Spring Session of KICKS in now in session at West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church. KICKS stands for Kids In Christ the King and is a youth based program that meets on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. Included is a meal, followed by worship, crafts and recreation. There is a fee. Tickets are now available for the locally-made movie “Awakening Of A Troubled Mind” third showing. The first two showing have old out. The movie will be screened at Studio On The Square on Thursday, March 12 and there will be ab addition showings with the 7 and 9 p.m. The third showing will be on March 16 at 7 p.m. at the same location. The Millington Lions Club meets at Olympic Steakhouse in Millington every second and fourth Tuesday at noon. The Lions Clubs works around the world for visually impaired and hearing impaired. The public is welcome to join the Club members and to make additional inquiries.

Grace Baptist Church located at 9171 Brunswick Road in Millington, will be hosting the “The Greenes,” a Southern Gospel Quartet. The concert will be a the church Saturday evening Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. There is no admission, however a love offering will be received. For more information, call 591-5485.
Feb. 1
The annual Black History Program of St. Paul Chapel, located at 8991 Richardson-Landing Road in Drummonds, will be held Feb. 1. The Pastor is Dr. W.E. Gatlin. This year’s event will be hosted by Patsy “Luv Luv” Johnson with the theme “God is Already Moving on Your Behalf.” Special guest will include Pastor Johnathan Roberson and Sabrina Smith, Plummer Grove Praise Team of Covington, The Bell Singers of Memphis and Sunset Travelers of Memphis. February Meeting of the Lucy Garden Club guest speaker will be Master Gardener Tom Mashour. Mashour’s subject will be “Lets Talk Tomatoes”. Mashour will be talking about the number one vegetable grown in home gardens. He will be sharing information about various tomatoes and especially heat tolerant tomatoes that were developed for the Southern hot summers. Mashour, a member of the Lucy Garden Club, has been with the Master Gardeners Association for 10 years and is a well known vegetable grower and had been on numerous episodes of the WKNO television series “The Family Plot.” He has been growing vegetables for nearly 50 years from California to the Mid-South. The meeting will be held at the Lucy Wedding Chapel at 6185 Chase Road in Millington. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. with the guest speaker followed by refreshments and than the business meeting. Returning in 2015 – April 10 & 11 in Atoka
After a very successful years, the Atoka BBQ Fest will be back again in 2015. The contest will take place in Atoka on April 10 and 11. It will be located at Nancy Lane Park, 118 Atoka Park Ave., on the South side of the Park. The contest will again be sanctioned by the Memphis Barbeque Network, featuring Pro and Challenger divisions. New for 2015, is the Kids Cook-Off, don’t foget to check it out.
