The Bruce Potter Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to help any senior who wants to pursue a career in Criminal Justice. Office Potter was a reserve with the Munford Police Department when he was struck with a terminal brain tumor. Unfortunately Office Potter lost his battle in March of 2013. The Bruce Potter Memorial Scholarship Fund was conceived in honor of Office Potter in hopes that others might be able to extend his love and appreciation for his community and the criminal justice field.

The town of Atoka is currently looking to fill entertainment slots for the 2014 Atoka BBQ Fest on Friday and Saturday, April 4-5, 2014 at Nancy Lane Park in Atoka. City of Munford, The recycling container is located at the south end of Haddad’s Department Store parking lot on Crigger Circle. Only newsprint, corrugated cardboard and plastics are collected at this site. Additional materials are collected at the Tipton County Recycling Center located at the landfill on Highway 51. Computers may be recycled free of charge at Expertek, 70 Munford Avenue.

The Millington Family YMCA will host its annual Polar Plunge on Saturday, at 10 a.m. to support the We Build People Campaign. Participants will jump, or walk into our outdoor pool then, will be treated to a breakfast donated by Old Timers Restaurant. The first 50 that register will receive a Polar Plunge long sleeve T-shirt. All proceeds will be used to send kids to camp, provide after school care for working parents and memberships for families in need. The YMCA is located at 7725 E. Navy Circle in Millington. This Weekend
Tipton Rosemark Academy’s Middle School Fine Arts Department presents Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr. in the TRA Performing Arts Center from Thursday, Jan. 30 through Sunday, Feb. 2. Performances will take place on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. The 65-minute musical, designed for middle-school aged performers, is based on the 2008 Broadway production and the 1989 animated feature film. The TRA cast contains 44 students led by director Todd Goode. This classic Disney show contains all of the songs from the Academy Award winning animated feature film as well as three new songs from the Broadway show. The Little Mermaid Jr. takes place in a magical kingdom beneath the sea, where a beautiful young mermaid named Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. But first, she’ll have to defy her father, the king of the sea, escape the clutches of an evil sea witch and convince a prince that she’s the girl with the perfect voice. Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for students. On Student Night, Thursday, January 30, student admission is only $6. The Dungarees & Petticoats Square Dance Club will begin a square dance class on Friday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. in the old Fellowship Hall at St. Williams Catholic Church at 4932 Easley St. at West Street in Millington. If you would like to learn how to square dance or have square danced before and need to recycle, you are welcome to come and join us. Singles are welcome. Month of March
Doyle Baseball Academy Returns to Millington for the fourth consecutive year. Millington Arts Recreation and Parks will be hosting the nationally recognized Doyle Academy on March 1. America’s No. 1 Camp will instruct baseball and softball players between the ages of 6 and 15 in hitting during the one day school. The school will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the Biloxi Ballpark. Doyle Baseball, in its 35th year of operation, conducts Satellite Schools all over the country and into Canada. More than 800,000 players have benefited from Doyle’s expert instruction. Thousands of players have gone on to collegiate careers as well as numerous players into professional baseball. Doyle Baseball utilizes a step by step teaching approach that allows every player to improve and build confidence. The Doyle program is a result of continuous research and development and has constantly been improved to provide the best instruction for young players everywhere. Register early and save on tuition for the Doyle Baseball Academy by Feb. 24. After that, the fee will increase.
