A local veterans group announced a scholarship award. The Harry M. Crawford American Legion Post 252 Millington announced a $1,000 scholarship award to Jennifer James.  James is a member of the Millington unit of the American Legion Auxiliary. She is attending The University of Louisville majoring in Environmental Engineering. James is the daughter of Lee and Mary Buchschacher of Bartlett. The annual scholarship was started several years ago in memory of Harry M. Crawford and is usually awarded to a member of the American Legion Family.

Month of June
The 2014 Millington Leadership Millington class is conducting a communitywide Baby Shower to benefit the Millington Crisis Center throughout the month of June. There are several locations to drop off baby items. For more information, call 872-4357 or visit millington-news.com

Millington Airport Authority Board of Commissioners Meetings are scheduled at 3:30 p.m. every third Tuesday at Millington Regional Jetport. For more information, call 873-5796.

Jordan’s Thrifts, Gifts & Java located at 6646 Highway 51 North by Plantation Oaks Hotel will be starting classes on Jan. 6 from 6-8 p.m. for the following classes: Domestic Violence, Shelter from the Storm (Overcoming Sexual Abuse) and Celebrate Recovery (Overcoming Addictions). The Exchange Club of Millington meets at Old Timer’s Restaurant in Millington at noon every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Guest are always welcomed. For more information, call 872-8888.

Join Millington Parks, Recreation and Arts’ Jeremy Rochell every Monday morning from 9 a.m. to noon  for a fun and educational program to make landscape improvements in our parks. This program is open to all ages. Children must be accompanied by and adult or pre register. All materials will be provided. No fee to participate. For more information, call 873-5770.

City of Munford, The recycling container is located at the south end of Haddad’s Department Store parking lot on Crigger Circle.  Only newsprint, corrugated cardboard and plastics are collected at this site.  Additional materials are collected at the Tipton County Recycling Center located at the landfill on Highway 51. Computers may be recycled free of charge at Expertek, 70 Munford Avenue.

Playhouse 51 presents A Little Murder Never Hurt Anybody by Ron Bernas.  Sponsored by Reed Family Dentistry and Smith Investments, this is the fourth and final show of Playhouse 51’s 10th Season. Performances will be held on June 13, 14 and 15 at the Harvell Civic Center in Millington located at 8077 Wilkinsville Road.  Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. the Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m.  Tickets are available at the door for a fee for regular adults, for seniors/students/military and Playhouse 51 members. Munford Parks & Rec
Munford Parks and Recreation Partners with the “Y” to Provide Summer Camps Munford Parks and Recreation has partnered with the Millington Family YMCA to provide summers camps for children who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade.  The summer day camp starts May 27-Aug. 1,  Hours are from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.  There is a registration fee.  Camps will be held at the old Munford Library located at 87 College Street, and will include trips to the parks in the city of Munford, the library and skating rink. Summer Day Camp Programs provide an exciting, safe environment for children and teens to explore the outdoors, build confidence, develop skills and make lasting friendships and memories, so they can grow as individuals and leaders. A Book Signing Event with The Women of Duck Commander Kay, Korie, Missy, Jessica and Lisa Robertson will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Walmart located at 8445 Highway 51 North in Millington.

Community Yard Sale at West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Spaces are available for a fee.  To reserve a space call Sharon at 876-3265.

The Trojan Baseball Summer Camp will be held at Miles Park this Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. There is a fee. Make checks payable to Trojans Baseball Boosters Pay and register the day of the event. The camp is for ages 7-14. The camp will include defense, pitching techniques, base running drills, precision hitting and player and coach involvement. Millington City Beautiful Gardening Seminar will be held Saturday at 11 a.m., at the Millington Farmer’s Market at 5152 Easley Street in Millington. The Seminar will be “Woodland Gardens” by Ayn Roberson, Tipton County Master Gardener. It is free to the public. For more information, call 872-2609.

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 1382 meeting will be held at noon, Thursday, at Old Timers Restaurant in Millington. June 23-27 Register now for Playhouse 51’s Summer Puppet Theatre Workshop at Harvell Civic Center for students ages 7-17, Monday through Friday, June 23-27, from 8 a.m. to noon each day with a performance Friday, June 27, at 7 p.m. It will be a learning experience in the art and craftsmanship of theater through creating, building, and performing a puppet show based on “The Three Billy Goats Gruff,” dramatizing the story from both sides:  that of the Billy Goats and that of the Troll.

NFL Pro Bowler and Carolina Panther star Greg Hardy is returning back to his hometown this summer for the I Go Hardy Camp for boys and girls. The football camp will be held July 12 for ages 6-17. The football camp is limited to 275. And there will be a cheerleading mini-camp for ages 6-12 that same day. The space there is limited to 25 spots. The camp will be held at Aycock Park with registration at 8 a.m. Then the camp will start at 9 a.m. and be completed at 2 p.m. Register at www.greghardyjr.com.

This Summer
The Millington Trojan Basketball Camp 2014 will be held June 16-19 (9 a.m. to noon) and July 7-10 (noon to 3 p.m.). There is a cost and early registration discount if paid by May 31 making checks payable to Trojans Head Coach Rob Sabau. Included in the fee is a camp T-shirt and personal evaluation by coaches. Sabau will direct the camp with Trojan coaches and players as camp directors. Camp participants should come dress and ready to play basketball with basketball shoes, shorts, socks and T-shirt.
