*On Thursday April 7, the NSA Mid-South Suzanne Collins Memorial Lantern Procession to End Sexual Violence will be held. For more information, call 874-7423.

*Save the date, Tuesday April 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the Millington Job & Education Fair to held at Crosspointe Baptist Church located at 8850 Highway 51 North. Secure a spot today by emailing: [email protected] or call 872-1486.

*Save the date for April 12 for the 10th Annual Taste of Millington presented by: Rotary Club & Patriot Bank. The event will be from 5-7:30 p.m., in the N-82 Gym. There are admission fees and tickets available from Rotary Club members or any branch of Patriot Bank, Ritter Communications and ITT/MWR NSA Mid-South

*Millington Crisis Center Needs: As some of you know, the Millington Crisis Center was broken into twice in the past 2 months.  The Center is in need of diapers, formulas, toilet paper, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, shampoo, and monetary donations.  The Center is open Tuesday-Thursday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., each week.  Donations can be brought to 8133 Wilkinsville Road.  The Center also have a  “gofundme” page on our FB page.

*Memphis International Raceway: World Series of Drag Racing celebrates its 63rd year in 2016 USA’s oldest drag racing event moves to a new location with new energy and support from Sunoco and the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau Tickets went on sale Friday, March 4 at Ticketmaster.com or call (800)745-3000

IRG Sports + Entertainment™ (IRGSE), a TPG portfolio company, Sunoco, and the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau announced today that the World Series of Drag Racing is returning this summer, but to a new and larger facility in a major league sports market. The world’s longest continually running drag racing event will celebrate its 63rd year at the Mid-South’s premiere motorsports destination, Memphis International Raceway (MIR) August 26- 27 with support from Sunoco and the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau.

-The Exchange Club of Millington meets at Old Timer’s Restaurant in Millington at noon every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Guest are always welcomed. For more information, call 872-8888.

-The Millington Lions Club meets at Olympic Steakhouse in Millington every second and fourth Tuesday at noon. The Lions Clubs works around the world for visually impaired and hearing impaired. The public is welcome to join the Club members and to make additional inquiries.

-The Millington Optimist Club meets at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday of the month at Old Timers located at 7918 C Street. For more information, call David Adams at 581-4886.

-Soul Out Ministries’ Hot Nutritional Meal are served every Thursday at the Baker Community Center at 7942 Church Street from noon to 1 p.m. The program is a local non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible. April 2
The Annual St. Anne’s Episcopal Attic Treasures and Plant Sale will be Saturday at 4063 Sykes Road in Millington. The event will be from 8 a.m .to 2 p.m.

The Kiwanis Club of Millington’s Annual Pancake Breakfast will be held at the Harvell Community Center Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon. There is a cost and come out to enjoy a hearty breakfast with all proceeds going to support youth and elderly program in the community.

April 2
Millington Arts and Recreation presents Battlefront Paintball presents lasertag, paintball, waiver and mobile lasertag at Centennial Park located at 5329 South Navy Circle in Millington on April 2. Then it will continue the first and third Saturday of each month. There is a cost per person per hour. April 2-3 The Millington Arts Council, along with the Millington Chamber of Commerce, and Millington Arts & Recreation Department, is sponsoring the 2016 Student Art Show and Millington Central High School Silent Art Auction. This year the event will be held at the Millington Civic Center, 8077 Wilkinsville Road, on Saturday, April 2 from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. and on Sunday, April 3 from 1 through 4 p.m. Stop by and support the MCHS National Art Honor Society by bidding on a large selection of high school art submitted for the silent auction. Live music will be provided by local school choirs and bands between 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday. Stick around and meet student artists at receptions held between 12:30 – 4 p.m. on Saturday. Check the Millington Arts Council (MAC) Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ millingtonartscouncil for updates on the event, details about the silent auction artwork, musical performance and artist reception schedules. This year the Student Art Show & MCHS Art Auction will be held on the same dates and at the same location as the Kiwanis Club Pancake Breakfast, and the Millington Quilt Guilds Quilt Show. Mark your calendars for this event as it will have something for everyone.

April 4
The Lucy Garden Club’s guest speaker for the April 4 meeting will be Master Gardener Melisa Nowag.  Nowag will be discussing pruning of shrubs for plant health, form and shape. She comes from a long line of gardeners.  Her father was a bee keeper and named her Melisa which is German for “Honeybee.” Nowag gardens on five acres in Collierville with her husband of more than 30 years.   She loves nature and all the plants and animals it provides. The Club meets at the Lucy Wedding Chapel at 6185 Chase Road in Millington.  The meeting starts promptly at 6:30 p.m. with our guest speaker followed by refreshments and than the business meeting.  All neighbors in North Shelby County and the surrounding communities are invited to attend this free presentation.  For more information, contact Tom Mashour at 872-3593 or 337-0046.

April 19
Millington City Beautiful Gardening Series continues Tuesday, April 19 at 6:30 p.m., with “Shade Gardening” presented by Anne Krekelberg, a Memphis Area Master Gardener. The event will take place at Baker Community Center located at 7942 Baker Street in Millington. It is free to the public. For more information call 872-2609.

April 23 The River City Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is hosting a prospective members workshop on Saturday, April 30 at the Tipton County Public Library, 3149 Highway 51 South in Covington. The workshop is free to those women 18 years of age or older who are interested in learning about the work of the DAR and about the application process to become a member. As seating is limited , attendance is by reservation only with a deadline of April 23.
