The River City Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met at Veteran’s Plaza in Memphis Tuesday, Nov. 11 to honor all the veterans.  Piper Dr. Ben Kemker presented the introductory music, and the Color Guard, Desoto County Patriots Chapter, TNSAR presented the colors. Nelly Shearer, Hon. Vice President General NSDAR presented the speaker, Chris Schoenberger, events coordinator of the West TN Veterans Home.  Natalie Payne, Regent of River City Chapter in Millington, presented the speaker with a gift. Following was the placing of the memorial wreath by Audrey Rainey, Regent of Watauga Chapter, and Taps was performed by Warren Keeton, bugler. Month of November Automotive Pro Tek will give away a car to a local veteran this holiday season. “You can tell a veteran thank you or give them a hand shake or hug all day long,”  Automotive Pro Tek owner Pamela Hanson said. “But it comes from the heart when you can give them something for all the did for each of us and for our freedom. Giving a car to one is just a small way to give back to them.” There are applications to fill out. They can be mailed back to Automotive Pro Tek, 2058 Tipton Road in Atoka or bring back to my shop by Dec. 1.

On Dec. 4, a panel of judges will choose the winner and the top two runners up. The presentation will be on Pearl Harbor Day Dec. 7, at Atoka United Methodist Church, located at 609 Atoka-Munford in Atoka. The presentation will be in the form of a potluck dinner for all veterans and the public who wish to bring a dish and attend. The Millington Lions Club meets at Olympic Steakhouse in Millington every second and fourth Tuesday at noon. The Lions Clubs work around the world for visually impaired and hearing impaired. The public is welcome to join the Club members and to make additional inquiries.

Millington Airport Authority Board of Commissioners Meetings are scheduled at 3:30 p.m. every third Tuesday at Millington Regional Jetport. For more information, call 873-5796.

Jordan’s Thrifts, Gifts & Java located at 6646 Highway 51 North by Plantation Oaks Hotel will be starting classes on Jan. 6 from 6-8 p.m. for the following classes: Domestic Violence, Shelter from the Storm (Overcoming Sexual Abuse) and Celebrate Recovery (Overcoming Addictions). Stay fit and active with low impact senior exercise class offered Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Baker Community Center Room 5. Baker Community Center is located at 7942 Church Street in Millington. For more information, call 873-5770.

The Exchange Club of Millington meets at Old Timer’s Restaurant in Millington at noon every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Guest are always welcomed. For more information, call 872-8888.

SOULOUT Ministries’ Hot Nutritional Meals are served every Thursday at the Baker Community Center from noon to 1 p.m. The program is affiliated with Dream Interfaith Ministries and all donations are tax deductible. For more information, call program founder/coordinator Carol Jenkins 949-1675.

Nov. 20

Chief Servant Community Mega Feast 2014 (Free-Pre Thanksgiving Dinner) will be held Nov. 20 at the Millington Civic Center from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. It’s free to all families, churches, friends and neighbors. Nov. 22
Embury UMW presents Christmas in the Forest Bazaar.  It will be held Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Embury United Methodist Church at 2060 Locke Cuba Road in Millington. There will be handmade crafts, relishes, baked goods along with soups and cornbread, hot dog lunches including drink and dessert served from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be the Christmas Decor with jellies and gifts. Nov. 28
The Kiwanis Christmas Tree Sale will be underway starting Nov. 28, Monday through Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Farmers Market off Easley Street.

Nov. 29
Munford High School Class of 1974 Class Reunion will be held Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites at 5090 Cooper Creek Blvd. in Millington. Dec. 5-6, Dec. 13
Come by the Millington Family YMCA on Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., for our Annual Christmas Craft Fair  which features edible goodies, crocheted and knit items, jewelry and more for sale.

Then on Saturday, Dec. 13 start early and participate in our Santa Swim by swimming one mile. The nursery will be available. Dec. 6
The city of Millington Holiday Parade will be on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014 (rain date Dec. 13). The parade route will travel along Navy Road from Newport to C Street. Trophies will be awarded for The Holly Award – the most festive equestrian group, The Jolly Award – the most spirited marching group, The Mistletoe Award  – the finest float, The Sugarplum Award – the merriest school group, The Joyous Award  – the best marching band. Dec. 13
Munford Baptist Church presents Christmas Village 2014 on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. It is a family event for all ages and admission is free. Come and visit the Magical Christmas Village that will include music, snacks, and village shops where children can create Christmas crafts. Children will have a blast inside the indoor snow area.
