HARE Donations

Last Thursday, Shelby County Commission Commissioner, Terry Roland (third from left) made the official grant of $10,000 to be used by HARE for community purposes.  It was approved by a unanimous vote of the Shelby County Commission.

Month of November
Winter basketball is back at the Millington Family YMCA. Practice days and times will be determined once teams are formed and coaches assigned. Games will be played primarily on Saturdays. Schedules may consist of Tuesday and Thursday weeknight games as needed. Requests for coaches will be honored if possible but are not guaranteed, with a maximum of 5 requests per team. Each request is first come first serve. I look forward to seeing you all out on the court!

Winter Biddy Basketball is back at the Millington Family YMCA. It is an 8 week program with games being played on Saturdays. Game times are TBD. This is a structured parent/child interaction where the child will learn introductory skills in the sport of Basketball and motor development will also be emphasized. MILLINGTON FAMILY YMCA

Holiday Season The Kiwanis Club of Millington’s annual Christmas Tree sales begins Friday Nov. 27. The sales location is the Millington Farmer’s Market. Kiwanis members are present from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday; and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Sales will continue until all trees are sold. All proceeds go back into the community for various service projects. Projects include scholarships for a Millington and Munford high school graduating senior, support for the annual Christmas Basket program, the Millington Crisis Center, Boy Scouts, Ronald McDonald House, Hope House and more.

Kiwanis International includes more than 8,000 clubs with nearly 400,000 members in more than 85 nations. This past year, Kiwanis clubs donated more than $100 million and almost 6 million volunteer hours for community service projects.

Millington Central High School Athletic Department is sponsoring a Coat Drive  for new or gently used coats for the students of Millington from  Nov. 18 – Dec. 18. (Pre-K through High School)

Memphis Arts Collective Christmas Show and Auction benefiting Alzheimer’s Day Services 1501 Union Ave. Nov. 27 – Dec. 24. Opening Night and Auction on Nov. 27, 6-9 p.m.  Christmas shop at the Holiday Show and Sale to get presents from local artists and support ADS.

Dec. 11
Northridge Woodhaven Community Outreach will host the annual Light of Hope Community Candlelight Remembrance on Friday, Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home, 6755 Highway 51 North, in Millington. This free community event is an opportunity for Mid-South residents to come together and honor their loved ones in a special way. Lighting candles for loved ones is interactive, impactful and visually beautiful, leaving everyone fulfilled. Joseph Brasher, Minister of Education at First Baptist Church-Millington, will be the guest speaker for this unique event, which will feature live music and refreshments. The Light of Hope Community Candlelight Remembrance is designed to promote comfort, hope and healing. Dec. 12
Munford Baptist Church located at 1253 Munford Ave., presents Christmas Village 2015 on Saturday, from 6-8 p.m. The admission is free but no childcare is provided. The Christmas Village will include music, refreshments, and various village shops where children can create Christmas crafts and receive free giveaways. There will also be an indoor snow area and a visit from Mrs. Claus. For more information call, the church at 837-6325.

Dec. 19
Friendship United Methodist Church presents the 2015 Youth Explosion “What are you doing with your dash?” The scripture is James 4:14 and the event will be Dec. 19 at the church located at 6220 Highway 51 North from noon to 3 p.m. Inviting the youth from Millington, Lucy, Woodstock, Northaven and Frayser. Christmas Time at the Y!
Come by the Millington Family YMCA on Friday, Dec. 4  from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or Saturday, Dec.  5  9 a.m.-1 p.m., for our Annual Christmas Craft Fair which features edible goodies, crocheted and knit items, jewelry and more for sale. Community is welcome.
