Month of October
The Senior Citizen’s club is a club open to all area senior for a membership fee of $5 per year. The club meets every Wednesday at the Baker Community Center in the Baker Auditorium from 10 a.m. to noon located at 7942 Church Street. For more information, call 873-5770.

The Millington Lions Club meets at Olympic Steakhouse in Millington every second and fourth Tuesday at noon. The Lions Clubs works around the world for visually impaired and hearing impaired. The public is welcome to join the Club members and to make additional inquiries.

The Millington Optimist Club meets at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday of the month at Pig N Whistle located at 6084 Kerrville Rosemark Road. For more information, call George Crews at 872-4232 or e-mail [email protected]

The Millington Quilters Guild meets every Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Maple Room located at 7942 Church Street. Weekly activities and projects are developed for all levels of quilters. This group makes several items to give back to groups such as veterans, families in need, those injured overseas, and children’s hospital’s.

Millington Airport Authority Board of Commissioners Meetings are scheduled at 3:30 p.m. every third Tuesday at Millington Regional Jetport. For more information, call 873-5796.

The Exchange Club of Millington meets at Old Timer’s Restaurant in Millington at noon every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Guest are always welcomed. For more information, call 872-8888.

Soul Out Ministries’ Hot Nutritional Meal are served every Thursday at the Baker Community Center at 7942 Church Street from noon to 1 p.m. The program is a local non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible. Sarge’s Okinawan Freestyle Martial Arts will started April 1 at Baker Community Center in Millington. The American Wado-Ryu Federation International Hall of Fame

Join Dance Night at the Baker Community Center the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 7-10 p.m. If you want to brush up on your dancing skills, you are welcome to join us for a free dance lesson from 6-7 p.m. Everyone is asked to bring a snack to share. Shelby County has applied for a $39 million disaster resiliency grant that would help protect Millington’s citizens, businesses and industries from future flooding disasters. The grant is designed to make Millington and other areas of Shelby County more resilient to future disasters and improving the quality of life for the areas affected by natural disasters in 2011. By kick starting the Millington GreenPrint Project and providing more areas for parks and recreation, the grant if awarded as requested will revitalize the area. Join us for an update on this exciting opportunity for Millington and Shelby County. The meeting will be held at the Millington Civic Center.

Oct. 2-3
On Friday, the Byars Hall High School Class of 1950 will meet at 3:30 p.m. at Garland United Methodist Church Family Life Center for fun and a meal. Also on Saturday, the classmates will enjoy fun and fellowing starting at 4 p.m. and dinner with entertainment by Gary Abbott at the Covington Country Club at 5 p.m. Reservations must be made by calling 409-3898 or 475-9207.

Oct. 3
There will be a fish fry Oct. 3 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 3099 West Union Road.  For more information, call 876-5757.

Quito Community Center’s Catch All Auction will be held Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. The Community Center is located at 4593 Quito Drummonds Road. For more information, call Bob Wood 833-8224.

Oct. 5 The Millington School Board will conduct a Community Meeting at 6 p.m. in the Board Chamber at City Hall to receive feedback from residents regarding the school system’s Strategic Goals for the current fiscal year. The board’s regular monthly meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Chamber. Oct. 9-11

Oct. 17
The Fourth Annual Heritage Festival at Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park will be held Saturday Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Shelter No. 3 located at 910 Riddick Road in Millington. It’s free to the public and will feature Civil War Re-enactment, living history, 18th century camp, games, food, live music and several other vendors. For more information, call 876-5215.

This Fall
West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church will be having a series of sermons based on the book of Romans. The title of the series is ‘The Gospel of God.’  The sermons will be on Sundays at 11 p.m., ending the middle of November. The sermons will be delivered by Rev. James Hamblin.
