The River City Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution recently celebrated Constitution Day at the Millington Library. The members presented the library with a children’s book and the Library staff with a box of cookies. Regent, Stricklin was presented proclamations from mayors of Atoka, Munford, Brighton, Mason and principal of Millington Elementary School. River City Chapter handed out mints, pencils and pamphlets for Constitution Week. Breakfast trays were presented to the Millington Fire Department and Millington Police Department with sincere thanks for all their service to the community. The River City Chapter went to the Millington Nursing Home and served cookies, lemonade and small gifts to the residents. Nancy Foshee entertained with a selection of patriotic songs.

Crisis Center Fund Raiser

The Millington Crisis Center is having a fund raiser from now until Oct. 29.  The Center has a number of boy’s costumes for $5 and also have teens and women’s costumes for $1.  Unfortunately, the Center does not have any small children’s costumes, however, some of the women’s costumes can be broken down for younger children. There are also white and gray wigs for $3 each.  Come in early for best selection. The Center is located at 8133 Wilkinsville Road and will be open for costume shopping Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon.

Oct. 15
The National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 1382 meeting will be held at noon, Thursday, Oct. 15 at Ryan’s, 8165 Highway 51 North  in Millington.  The guest speaker will be Stacie Ledridge, Field Service Representative, Federal Employees Program for BlueCross/BlueShield of Tennessee.  She will discuss the upcoming benefit/rate changes for 2016.  For more information, call Carolyn Cribbis at 413-7123.

Oct. 31
Fall Festival / Halloween Carnival will be held Saturday, Oct. 31. Join the fun at the Annual Fall Festival / Halloween Carnival at the Millington Farmers’ Market on Halloween from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. at View Facility located at 5152 Easley Street. For more information, call 873-5770.

Nov. 7 West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church will host a Church Craft Bazaar on Nov. 7 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Spaces are available for a fee.  The money for the spaces is due by Nov. 2.  For more information, call Sharon Hance at 876-3265. Nov. 14

Come out Saturday at 10:30 a.m. for the second annual Millington Veteran’s Parade honoring all who have served the United States in the armed forces. Preregistration is required. Line up begins at 9:30  at Nelson and Newport. Parade will begin promptly an hour later. For more information, call Millington Arts, Recreation and Parks at 873-5770.

The Millington Central High School Class of 1965 Reunion will be held Nov. 14 at 4 p.m. at  Olympic Restaurant located at  8500 Wilkinsville in Millington. The dress is casual and there is no cost for a class member. Celebrating 160 years in Shelby Forest
Embury United Methodist Church will have its Homecoming 2015 service on Oct. 18 to celebrate 160 years of ministry to the people of the Shelby Forest area. The Homecoming service will start with a Sunday morning fellowship time celebrating the past of what God has done via a slide-show at 10:30 a.m. The worship celebration service will be at 10:45 a.m. Dr. Harry Durbin will be our guest speaker for the service. Durbin served Embury from 1982-85. Following the worship celebration there will be a potluck in the fellowship hall. Embury United Methodist Church 2060 Locke Cuba Road in Millington.
