Millington’s Playhouse 51 is preparing to bring a romantic comedy set in the early 1960’s produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. Send Me No Flowers appeared on Broadway in 1960 and became a Doris Day, Rock Hudson, Tony Randall movie in 1964. It’s the early 1960’s. A time of lovely, serene suburban homes well-trimmed green lawns and happy couples where the husband goes off to work in the morning and ‘the little lady’ stays home to deal with cobwebs left by the cleaning lady. In this sunshiny Pollyanna world, George Kimball is a serious, practicing hypochondriac – – a practice his wife Judy lovingly tolerates but does not support. All is fine until George overhears his doctor discussing a terminal patient with only weeks to live and mistakenly believes it’s about him, even though he just had a physical and was pronounced in perfect health, except for a little indigestion. With this news George immediately begins putting his final affairs in order, including getting his wife to go to night school to learn to deal with day-to-day things without him and finding a replacement husband (a companion only) for his wife once he departs – – – a very sweet, unselfish thought that goes terribly wrong when Judy thinks his strange behavior is to hide an affair. From there, a series of crossed wires, miscommunications, and further misunderstandings quickly multiply amidst clever dialogue, funny situations, and a variety of eccentric and hilarious people who try to help.

The Collierville Police Department has announced the 17th Annual Collierville Classic Car Show on Sept. 17. Again this year, the show will be hosted by Central Church, located at 2005 Winchester Road. Show proceeds benefit the Collierville Education Foundation. The event is sponsored by Landers Ford. Show participants could win $7,500.00 (based on 400 entries) via $100 – $500 cash drawings. Final prize amount will be determined by number of entries. Spectator admission is free, and hundreds of cars, truck, tractors, military vehicles and fire trucks are anticipated to be on display. A benefit is being hosted by Randy Parnell, Jimmy Spray and Jeff Yancy at the Haystack Bar and Grill will be held on Sept. 17 6 p.m. located at 6560 Highway 51 in Millington. September 17, begins the national celebration of Constitution Week. The River City Chapter , Daughters of the American Revolution will be observing Constitution Week at the Millington Public Library on Wednesday, Sept. 21 from 10 -11:30 a.m. Members will be dressed in period costumes and handing out literature, pencils and bookmarks. Displays will be set up and a book presentation will be at 10:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

Sept. 30-Oct. 2
The American Legion Fair Committee, Inc. announced that instead of having a carnival this year, they will bring a circus. The Carson & Barnes Circus will perform six shows at the Memphis International Raceway in Millington from Friday, Sept.30 through Sunday, Oct. 2. The 80-year-old traveling circus has complete series of circus acts. The 2-hour presentation includes elephants, high wire and trapeze acts and other dare devils to thrill you and chill you. This all takes place under their giant big top. “A circus is great, wholesome family entertainment,” Lee Buchschacher, president and chairman of the Legion Fair said. “We are excited about having them help us to raise money for our local veterans including the West Tennessee Veterans home.” The show times are: Friday night at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday at 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. For more information and ticket prices, call (901) 230-3870.

The “InSight Gallery” of St. Anne Episcopal Church located at 4063 Sykes Road, has opened its gallery to the public and to artists in the area to exhibit their work commission free. Setup of the first exhibit will be held on Oct 1. If you are a local artist and would like to exhibit, contact Mr. Morris, Gallery Coordinator at email: [email protected]. Artist may hang up to five words. Pottery and Sculpture are also welcome. Artists are required to be present at the opening reception. The public is invited to attend the grand opening and first exhibit on Oct. 8 from 5-7 p.m. to see a variety of fine art in various mediums from multiple artists. Art is available for purchase. 2016 Monday with the MAC October
The Millington Arts Council, along with the Millington Arts & Recreation Department, will begin offering art lessons for the local residents ages 15 and older. In October, topics will cover: Oct. 3 – Drawing Cartoon and Caricature sketching with Thomas Sellers; Oct. 10 – Acrylic Painting on Canvas with Lori Campbell; Oct. 17 – Camera Q&A with Bing Osterman; October 24th – Watercolor Landscapes with Valerie Shavers, and ends on Oct. 31 with a free Art Party event for kids up to 14 years of age. These courses will be taught at the Baker Community Center from 6-8:30 p.m. on Monday evenings. Class fees will be $25 and includes all supplies. Reservations may be made with a non-refundable $15 deposit.

This Fall
Free Art Class at St. Anne’s Episcopal located at 4063 Syke sRoad in Millington will be held throughout the fall every Thursday at 10 a.m. except for holidays. You must be at least 15 years old. The first class will be held Oct. 13 (Basic Sculpture). Students will be required to bring their own materials to each class — bring nothing the first class. For more information, call 409-8705.
