*The American Legion and Auxiliary holds monthly meetings at the Baker Center starting at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month. On the first Saturday of the summer months the Auxiliary have been at the Farmers Market informing the community about our projects/programs that help our Veterans. *Soul Out Ministries’ nutritional meal are served every Thursday at the Baker Community Center at 7942 Church Street from noon to 1 p.m. The program is a local non-profit organization, tax deductible. *The Exchange Club of Millington meets at Old Timer’s Restaurant in Millington at noon every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Guest are always welcomed. For more information, call 872-8888.

*The Millington Lions Club meets at Olympic Steakhouse in Millington every second and fourth Tuesday at noon. The Lions Clubs works around the world for visually impaired and hearing impaired. The public is welcome to join the Club members and to make additional inquiries.

*The Millington Optimist Club meets at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday of the month at Old Timers located at 7918 C Street. For more information, call David Adams at 581-4886.

*The EA chapter is here in Millington. Emotions Anonymous International. Emotions Anonymous (EA) exists to support individuals with emotional difficulties in their efforts to live a more manageable life by using the Emotions Anonymous Program of recovery. Classic Sea World Inc., located at 217 Highway 51 North in Covington will be celebrating its 30th anniversary Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be food, giveways, door prizes, face painting and more. For more information, call 476-1955.

Sept. 24

On Saturday, Sept. 24, the Annual Luncheon for Retirees and/or former employees of the former Naval Hospital of Millington, will be from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Old Timer’s Restaurant in Millington. For more information, call 872-6464.

On Sunday at 11:15 a.m., we will be celebrating 11 years worshipping God together as a family. We are inviting the public to come celebrate in lifting up the name of Jesus as we give thanks for His continued blessings upon us. The Upper Canaan Missionary Baptist Church Family invites the community to worship with us in our Annual Homecoming Program on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Gifts of Life Ministries of Memphis is the guest church and Pastor Dr. Andre Johnson will deliver the Word. Their choir will sing, deacons will do the devotion, and their ushers will serve. Come prepared to partake of delicious mostly home cooked food for the physical body. Sept. 30-Oct. 2

The American Legion Fair Committee, Inc. announced that instead of having a carnival this year, they will bring a circus. The Carson & Barnes Circus will perform six shows at the Memphis International Raceway in Millington from Friday, Sept.30 through Sunday, Oct. 2. The 80-year-old traveling circus has complete series of circus acts. The 2-hour presentation includes elephants, high wire and trapeze acts and other dare devils to thrill you and chill you. This all takes place under their giant big top. “A circus is great, wholesome family entertainment,” Lee Buchschacher, president and chairman of the Legion Fair said. “We are excited about having them help us to raise money for our local veterans including the West Tennessee Veterans home.” The show times are: Friday night at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday at 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. For more information and ticket prices, call (901) 230-3870.

Oct. 1

The “InSight Gallery” of St. Anne Episcopal Church located at 4063 Sykes Road, has opened its gallery to the public and to artists in the area to exhibit their work commission free. Setup of the first exhibit will be held on Oct 1. If you are a local artist and would like to exhibit, contact Mr. Morris, Gallery Coordinator at email: [email protected].  Artist may hang up to five words. Pottery and Sculpture are also welcome. Artists are required to be present at the opening reception. The public is invited to attend the grand opening and first exhibit on Oct. 8 from 5-7 p.m. to see a variety of fine art in various mediums from multiple artists. Art is available for purchase. Meet the artists and enjoy refreshments, live music, and wine from the Old Millington Winery. Bring a Friend and exhibits run for two months, this exhibit will run until Dec 30. Oct. 16-23

Richland Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church will be hosting their “Homecoming Week,” beginning on Sunday, Oct. 16, that will feature various evening programs culminating with a Sesquicentennial Sunday Service on Oct. 23 with the anticipated unveiling of an historical marker after the service.  An invitation has gone out to encourage all who have had connections to the congregation to be present at these activities, as well as an invitation to the general public.  For more information on this event, consult the church’s 150th Anniversary page at our website: http://www.richlandarp.org/150th-year-anniversary-at-richland-arp.html.

2016 Monday with the MAC

October

The Millington Arts Council, along with the Millington Arts & Recreation Department, will begin offering art lessons for the local residents ages 15 and older. In October, topics will cover: Oct. 3 – Drawing Cartoon and Caricature sketching with Thomas Sellers; Oct. 10 – Acrylic Painting on Canvas with Lori Campbell; Oct. 17 – Camera Q&A with Bing Osterman; October 24th – Watercolor Landscapes with Valerie Shavers, and ends on Oct. 31 with a free Art Party event for kids up to 14 years of age. These courses will be taught at the Baker Community Center from 6-8:30 p.m. on Monday evenings. Class fees will be $25 and includes all supplies. Reservations may be made with a non-refundable $15 deposit.

This Fall

Free Art Class at St. Anne’s Episcopal located at 4063 Syke sRoad in Millington will be held throughout the fall every Thursday at 10 a.m. except for holidays. You must be at least 15 years old. The first class will be held Oct. 13 (Basic Sculpture). Students will be required to bring their own materials to each class — bring nothing the first class. For more information, call 409-8705.
