Members of the Young at Heart senior group at Clopton United Methodist Church in Brighton were recently entertained by “The Three Wise Men,” from left, Carter Hooker, Howard Michael and Walter Hollyfield.  They performed a variety of songs along with joke telling. 

Month of September
The Millington Lions Club meets at Olympic Steakhouse in Millington every second and fourth Tuesday at noon. The Lions Clubs works around the world for visually impaired and hearing impaired. The public is welcome to join the Club members and to make additional inquiries.

The Millington Optimist Club meets at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday of the month at Pig N Whistle located at 6084 Kerrville Rosemark Road. For more information, call George Crews at 872-4232 or e-mail [email protected]

The Millington Quilters Guild meets every Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Maple Room located at 7942 Church Street. Weekly activities and projects are developed for all levels of quilters. This group makes several items to give back to groups such as veterans, families in need, those injured overseas, and children’s hospital’s.

Millington Airport Authority Board of Commissioners Meetings are scheduled at 3:30 p.m. every third Tuesday at Millington Regional Jetport. For more information, call 873-5796.

The Exchange Club of Millington meets at Old Timer’s Restaurant in Millington at noon every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Guest are always welcomed. For more information, call 872-8888.

Soul Out Ministries’ Hot Nutritional Meal are served every Thursday at the Baker Community Center at 7942 Church Street from noon to 1 p.m. will return Sept. 10. The program is a local non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible. For more information, call program founder/coordinator and CEO Carol Jenkins 949-1675.

Sarge’s Okinawan Freestyle Martial Arts will started April 1 at Baker Community Center in Millington. The American Wado-Ryu Federation International Hall of Fame Enductee Shihan R.L. “Sarge” Covin will be the instructor on Monday and Wednesdays from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The classes are free for children ages 5-18. Al Chymia Shriner’s Boss Hoss Giveaway to help the children is currently underway. Each $10 tax deductible donation is a possible winner. Net proceeds go to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children. For more information, call 377-7336.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7175 is extending a special invitation to everyone to the Warrior Lounge. The VFW Post 7175 is located at 4681 Cuba Millington Road in Millington. It supports the needs of veterans, active duty personnel and the community. It’s business hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Warrior Lounge is open at 10 a.m. Monday through Friday. The lounge offers food, games and more. Wednesday evenings from 7 to 11 p.m. is Ladies’ Night. Sept. 9
KICKS, Kids in Christ the King, will start on Sept. 9 from 6-8:30 p.m.  This is a wonderful program for the youth in this area from pre-K through sixth grade.  It includes a meal, worship, crafts and recreation.  There will be a new class this fall for the older youth for more in-depth Bible study and activities.  For more information, call Debbie at 876-3665 or West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church , 3099 West Union Road, 876-5757.

Sept. 10 The Millington Public Library Cakewalk will be held Thursday, Sept. 10, from 3-6 p.m. -Funds raised through donations and ticket sales -All cake donations are from patrons and sponsors of the Library -All children must be accompanied by an adult -All prizes must be picked up the day of the cakewalk No refunds or exchanges Proceeds go to the Library Angels fund.

The Library Angels Fund enables patron who are financially unable to afford a library card to obtain one and have access to the services we offer. The fund is administered through the Library Boosters.
