The Millington Quilters Guild hosted their annual quilt show on Saturday, March 29 at Baker Community Center. A wide variety of the organization’s handy work was on display. In addition to the many quilts – pillows, bags and other items which are part of the organization’s charity work also were on display. Louise Cummings, Doris Young and Bobbie Lulloff who quilt every Wednesday at New Salem Cumberland Presbyterian Church stopped by to see the show. Jordan’s Thrifts, Gifts & Java located at 6646 Highway 51 North by Plantation Oaks Hotel will be starting classes on Jan. 6 from 6-8 p.m. for the following classes: Domestic Violence, Shelter from the Storm (Overcoming Sexual Abuse) and Celebrate Recovery (Overcoming Addictions). City of Munford, The recycling container is located at the south end of Haddad’s Department Store parking lot on Crigger Circle.  Only newsprint, corrugated cardboard and plastics are collected at this site.  Additional materials are collected at the Tipton County Recycling Center located at the landfill on Highway 51. Computers may be recycled free of charge at Expertek, 70 Munford Avenue.

The Millington Central High School Backyard BBQ Contest (2 Man Teams) will be held April 26. There is an entry fee per category (hamburger, pork, chicken and best booth. St. Annes Episcopal Church will be holding their annual Attic Treasures & Plant Sale on Saturday from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.  Incredible bargains on gently worn clothing, furniture, houswares, knick knacks, books and toys.  Plants range from small seedlings to beautiful potted plants.  St. Annes is located at 4063 Sykes Road in Millington.

PAMPER ME PINK – “Be Aware … Show You Care”
Every woman needs a day to pamper herself. Join UT Extension and team up Tennessee partners to raise awareness of breast and cervical cancer on Saturday, April 26.  This free event, held at the city of Munford Community Room in the back of Regions Bank at 86 South Tipton Street, will include beauty tips, mammograms, health screenings, massages, door prizes and entertainment for kids, plus a free gift to the first 50 participants. Additional vendors are being sought at this time to participate in this health fair to provide information, mini-pampering sessions, health screenings, food, games and activities, or arts and crafts. If anyone is nterested in joining Millington’s Relay for Life and support the American Cancer Society, contact Cathy Pike. The group needs teams – entertainment and vendors this year. Day of the main event is May 17 at Aycock Park in Millington. Event will be held from noon until midnight this year. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we will move the event inside. Atoka Pack 60 Cub Scouts Rummage Sale Fundraiser will be held May 3 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Atoka United Methodist Church located at 609 Atoka-Munford Road. The local cub scout group is having a group rummage sale to raise money for the scouts and their activities. Along with a “charity” auction on homemade chairs designed by the scouts at 11 a.m.

May 15
On Thursday, the Dixie Echoes will be in concert at Grace Baptist Church of Rosemark. The singing will begin at 7 p.m. No admission will be charged, but a love offering will be taken up. The church is located at 9171Brunswick Road in Rosemark. For more information, call 829-4621.

This Summer
NFL Pro Bowler and Carolina Panther star Greg Hardy is returning back to his hometown this summer for the I Go Hardy Camp for boys and girls. The football camp will be held July 12 for ages 6-17. The football camp is limited to 275. And there will be a cheerleading mini-camp for ages 6-12 that same day. The space there is limited to 25 spots. The camp will be held at Aycock Park with registration at 8 a.m. Then the camp will start at 9 a.m. and be completed at 2 p.m. Register at www.greghardyjr.com.
