Captured in Manchester

Escaped inmate Cecil Corey Haggins was captured along with his girlfriend within 24 hours.

News broke June 14 that Haggins escaped from the federal prison in Millington. Haggins’, 33, absence was discovered in the Federal Correctional Institution-Memphis Federal Prison Camp that Monday around 9:15 p.m. as a prison officer noticed he was gone during a special count.

On June 15, several law enforcement agencies were on the hunt for Haggins. With the description of brown hair, hazel eyes, 5’11”, and weighs about 215 pounds making the rounds along with Haggins’ photograph. 

Once found, Haggins and his girlfriend were taken into custody at a hotel in Manchester. Both are expected to face federal charges related to his escape.They were held at the Coffee County Jail.

Prior to his escape, Haggins was serving a 120-month sentence for Possession with Intent to Distribute 50 Grams or More of a Methamphetamine Mixture and Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Offense. 

The United States Marshals Service along with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and other law enforcement agencies conducted the search for Haggins. There is also an internal investigation into how he was able to escape.
