The McNairy Central Bobcats traveled to Tipton County for a quality test on the pitch.

The undefeated Brighton Cardinals lived up to the expectations and gave the Bobcats plenty of lessons, winning 6-0 Thursday night under the lights of Brighton Stadium.

“Things have been going pretty good, we’ve been having a lot of fun,” Brighton Head Coach Dylan Brown said. “Things have been going pretty well our way.

“Limited injuries, not completely injury-free — knock on wood,” he continued. “We’re recovering and the team is picking up the slack missing Jayden (Edwards) for the last three games now. He has a minor injury, so we hope he’ll be back in a week or so.”

The Cardinals improved to 9-0 on the season starting with Gavin Dittrich starting the scoring at the 25:30 mark of the first half.

Before the first half concluded, Jason Hicks tallied a goal with a leaping kick to make the score 2-0 with 4 minutes 19 seconds remaining.

“A little slow tonight,” Brown said of his team’s performance. “We have to keep our team cohesion going — no random finger-pointing to make sure we stay together as a team.

“Move the ball a little quicker and make sure we keep our shape,” he also noted. “We’ll be that much better if we move the ball a little quicker.”

Brighton was quicker in the second half forcing a McNairy Central miscue in the box that led to a penalty kick. Acalan Davis had the honors and netted the PK to make the tally 3-0.

The Cardinals tallied three more goals to close out the contest with Hicks connecting again to make it 4-0.

Jacob York made the score 5-0 with less than 7 minutes remaining in the game. Finally senior Caleb Smith scored after missing three shots over the net.

Now the Cardinals head into league play as the favorites to win it all.

“I think they prepare themselves,” Brown concluded. “We know we have a goal and so far we’ve been meeting every goal. We just want to keep smashing them. That’s our drive — one game at a time, improve, review.”
