Star Staff Reports

ms-karen-227x300-1180844 The MPD is raising money to help one of its own in Karen Craig, who is battling breast cancer.

Millington Police Department’s Karen Craig has been greeting those who walk through the doors of the MPD for years. Now, she will have to miss time from her post battling breast cancer.

Craig has undergone surgery to remove the cancer and is now beginning chemo and radiation treatments. She has been a part of the city of Millington for four years as the MPD secretary. This is an extremely difficult time physically, emotionally, and financially for Craig. The Millington Police Department, along with Interim Mayor Linda Carter, have agreed that if the community can donate and raise $1,000 in the next three weeks, then the police officers and dispatchers will shave their heads in honor of Craig, courtesy of Darrbe Lane Salon. Officers also will be selling Boston Butts for $30.

Anyone who donates $50 or more will receive a raffle ticket and be entered into a drawing for prizes. You can donate money at the Millington Police Department, at City Hall, the Baker Community Center, at any Millington Fire Department, or at the First Tennessee Bank. Make donations at First Tennessee Bank in benefit of Karen Craig.

Also, you can contact Karen Lesley if you would like your donations to be made “In Honor Of” or “In Memory Of” of a person and those names will be displayed the day of the Benefit Event. The Benefit Event is schedule to be at noon on Dec. 22, 2012 at the Millington Civic Center Banquet Hall. Let’s join together, Millington, and help one of our own out. For more information, Karen Lesley at [email protected] or at 872-3340.
