Back in 2013, SOULOUT Ministries came to light in the Millington area.
SOULOUT Ministries started as a program under Dream Interfaith Ministries a 501(c)3 Non-Profit located 4641 Shelby Road in Millington. Founder and CEO Carolyn Jenkins hosted an annual Thanksgiving Feast on Thanksgiving Day at the Baker Community Center located at 7942 Church Street, in Millington.
Along with the meal, Jenkins and her volunteers provided hygiene items for the homeless, seniors or any person in need.
Another part of the SOULOUT Ministry Program during that era was providing a nutritional meal every Thursday at the Baker Community Center for the homeless, seniors and all persons in need.
Then COVID-19 struck the world and Jenkins had to modify her ministry to keep the tradition of giving alive.
The 2020 Thanksgiving Meal went mobile. Under the cloud of a global pandemic, Jenkins provided boxes with food items for those in need. Members of Sigma Lambda Lambad Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. (President Kenny Brown) came to assist Jenkins in getting the food to her church Tabernacle Missionary Baptist in Millington.
Fast forward to 2021, last Thursday Jenkins and nearly a dozen volunteers gathered at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church to prepare 35 boxes for Millington seniors who qualified for a Thanksgiving Meal box. After a prayer from Pastor Bryant Henderson, the outreach began. Now the words of Jenkins about the 2021 effort.
“Still giving my holiday tradition, SOULOUT Ministry is still giving Thanksgiving blessings. I am thankful and grateful for the Memphis Sigma Lambda Lambad Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. for supporting my feeding ministry in Millington the past nine years.
When I call, the come out with hands on supporting SOULOUT Ministries in the Millington community.
This year they provided all the hams that went in the Thanksgiving baskets. I am so grateful for my Pastor Bryant Henderson and Tabernacle Church and the National Naval Officers Associations for supporting SOULOUT the past two years.
My focus this year was on the elderly and sick and shut in.
