Four years ago El Toro Taco owners Jeff and Dawn Rasar transformed their 8067 Highway 51 North parking lot into a destination for classic cars. Vintage automobile owners from Bartlett, Cordova, Collierville, Dyersburg and cities in Mississippi travel to Millington to display their cars from April to October. And last year El Toro Taco started a new tradition with Trunk or Treat as the closing ceremony for the car show season. Last Friday the Second Annual Trunk or Treat Fun For All Boo Cruise and Hay Ride was held outside El Toro Taco. “This turnout is awesome,” Jeff said. “It’s great to see everybody enjoying this and it’s all thanks to our great sponsors. It’s a great way to give back to the community that has supported us for 39 years.” The Trunk of Treat was made possible by sponsors and participants like El Toro Taco, Hot Rod Barn, the Millington Police Department, Millington Fire Department, city of Millington, Millington Star, Millington Transmission, Southern Meat Market, Rosemark Pentecostal Church, Jordan’s Lighthouse, Carey’s Body Shop, Homer Skelton Ford and Cash Express. Before the festivities officially kicked off at 5:30 p.m., children were showing up in costumes ready to visit classic car owners with blows of treats at the trunks of the vehicles. One of the stars of the night was WL Sanders’ 1989 Hearst featuring a Zombie Bride in a coffin and Witch holding lollipops.
Sanders is a regular during the car show season featuring one of his three classic automobiles. His Hearst is in demand during this time of the year with a ghost in the passenger seat.
Brother and sister Damien and Danica Jolly were joined by their cousin Kyle Taylor to visit the ghoulish Hearst for come candy. Some children selected to start their day of fun with the moon bounce like 2-year-old Brentley Waxler and older children Tyler Johnson and Jacob Forrester. No one was avoiding little witch Chloe Devitt, 3, or Zombie Tow Truck Driver Madalyn Perry, 11. All events and activities were free. Rasar said El Toro tries to give back to the community throughout the year like the Car Show at Goat Days that raises money for the Millington Crisis Center. “We’ve always been about family and been family oriented,” Rasar concluded. “We’re very family friendly. That’s what we started with all those years ago and will end with. It’s lots of fun and it’s great to get people out here to see what Millington has to offer.”
