Caught by the Horn… Lake: Roller coaster night leaves Trojans on the short end against Eagles

The Horn Lake Eagles made the trip to Flag City Dec. 1 to take on the host Millington Trojans.
With the Eagles nailing three-pointers in the early moments of the game, Horn Lake was able to achieve a 38-24 halftime advantage. The Eagles kept flight throughout the second half to avoid a Millington comeback leading to a 70-50 win.
The Trojans had two early baskets courtesy of a D’Camron Haynes layup and Seth Grandberry three-pointer. The Horn Lake advantage was 9-5. The Eagles created some breathing room when Kareem Thompson and James Hughes made baskets to push Horn Lake ahead 14-5.
The Eagles were ahead 19-9 late in the opening period. Grandberry closed the gap to 19-13 at the end of the first quarter with a layup.
The beginning of the second quarter Winston Moore hit a three-pointer to make the tally 19-16. Moments later his teammate Chris Barnes scored on a put-back bucket to make the score 19-18.
Horn Lake stopped the Millington run with a Trevon Jackson triple. The Eagles had a 9-0 run with Jordan Pointer and Thompson hitting three-pointers to make the score 28-18.
The Eagles went on to outscore the Trojans 10-6 down the stretch of the first half leading to a 38-24 advantage for Horn Lake.
Millington kept pace with Horn Lake in the third quarter only being outscored 14-12. Horn Lake’s lead stayed safe with the Eagles winning the fourth quarter 18-14.
Millington concluded the week at the Rickey Fayne Classic taking on host Brighton. The Cardinals were able to pull out a 69-66 win led by DeMaryo Gatlin with 20 points.
Haynes matched Gatlin’s output leading the Trojans with 20 points. Chris Barnes added 18 against Brighton.
