COVINGTON — The size and experience of the Covington Lady Chargers was waiting for the Munford Lady Cougars Friday night.
Lady Cougars Head Coach Steve Poindexter employed a patient offense to try to combat the Lady Charger weapons. The plan was working early with Covington holding an 8-3 featuring a pair of Cortayza Flowres three-pointers.
The Lady Chargers had enough offense led by interior players Felia Fayne and DaNiyasis Robinson to prevail 40-28.
Covington was ahead 15-7 at the break and finally created a comfortable cushion in the third quarter outscoring Munford 15-7 in that period alone.
Munford had a moment of hope to pull off the upset when Maiya Reed drained a triple in the fourth quarter to make the tally 37-28 with 1:12 remaining. But the Chargers locked down on defense and held on for the 12-point victory.
