CROSSROADS: Lady Cardinals Cross Country enjoys record-breaking 2020

The Brighton Lady Cardinal Cross Country team earned a spot at State earlier this month. At the Regional meet under the guidance of coaches Brian Oswalt and Reed Spicer, Lady Cardinals Brie Howard, Kailyn Varnadore, Carson Waddle not pictured, Kamryn Bridges, Presley Smith, Mackenzie Winnans and Hailey Landers earned a spot in next week’s State Meet.
The team came in third with Howard finishing in fourth, Landers taking 13th place and Varnadore in 20th.
The 2020 championship dates were Nov. 5-6 in the Nashville area at Sanders Ferry Park.
The course was a 70-acre lakeside park operated by the city of Hendersonville located on a peninsula surrounded by Old Hickory Lake.
At State, Varnadore finished with a time of 21.57.27 for the best Lady Cardinal output. Another Tipton County product, Munford’s Averie Yeagar clocke da time of 22.50.26. Winnans came in at 24.17.04 and Waddle finished at 25:43.06.
Bridges and Smith finished at 26:17.68 and 26:22.76 respectively. Lady Cardinals Brie Howard and Haley Landers clocked the respective times of 22:09 and 23:15. Coach Oswalt congratulates his girls and said their impressive season sets the bar high for future Brighton Cross Country runners.
