Trojan defenders Johnathan Patterson and Patrick Macon swarm in on a Cordova runner Friday night for a tackle in Millington’s 31-3 win.

CORDOVA — With a hard-hitting defense and timely offense, the Millington Trojans got back into the win column tonight beating Cordova 31-3.
The Trojans had to overcome injures to pull off the victory in the Cordova Football Stadium. Millington quarterback Allen Moore started the game throwing a 63-yard touchdown to his favorite target Lakeron Garcia that made the score 7-0.
George Odum set up Millington’s next score with an interception return to the 3-yard line. His teammate Antonio Webber cashed in a few play later with a 2-yard TD run.
After a Wolves field goal made the score 14-3, Millington’s offense went back onto the field. With an all-out blitz the Wolves sacked Moore and damaged his shoulder.
Needing to snatch momentum back, the Trojan defense lead by players like Odum, Johnathan Patterson, Patrick Macon and Delvin Williamson neutralized the Cordova speed.
Then the Millington offense got into the act when Webber broke loose for a 69-yard run setting up his own 1-yard TD run that made the tally 21-3 at halftime.
Coming out of the locker room, Millington Head Coach Chris Michael placed the ball into the hands of freshman signal caller Eldon Tyms.
The ninth-grader delivered tossing a fade pass to the back of the end zone into the hands of receiver El Paso Johnson. The 8-yard score made the scoreboard read 28-3.
Trojan place kicker Brendan VanEmelem concluded the scoring for the night with a 22-yard field. Millington improved to 4-2 overall and still unbeaten in district. The Trojans will welcome Trezevant to town this Friday for Homecoming.
In other action, the Brighton Cardinals won a shootout in Munford 56-33. The victory brings the Cardinals to .500 on the season at 3-3.
