District 15-3A Softball will be a battle royal come May with real contender like the Brighton Lady Cardinals, Millington Lady Trojans and Munford Lady Cougars contending for the title.
Last week illustrated how the three heavyweights will have an intense competition for the championship come district tournament time.
The Lady Cougars showed up and showed out April 15 at the Munford Softball Field with a 10-0 win in six innings against Millington.
The Munford MVP of the night was given to “Big Red” Gracie Williams going 4-for-4 at the plate with a walk. Brooke Levine was in the circle and allowed only three hits over six innings, striking out nine Lady Trojans and walking one.
The Lady Cougar bats were productive with 11 hits. Harper Seiler and Mia Kate Griffin each drove in three runs. Ellie Kate Billings and Ava-Kate Hamm each collected multiple hits.
The Lady Trojans bounced back a couple of nights later making another trip up to Tipton County. Millington hadn’t beat the Brighton Lady Cardinals in almost 30 years of competition. The winless streak ended when Millington controlled things last Thursday night to win 10-2 over Brighton.
Millington sophomore Hayley Stevens crushed a three-run homer, while seniors Grace Bell and Breanna Hulsey both went 4-for-5 at the plate. Doubles came flying off the bats of Hulsey, junior Riley Washburn, eighth grader Alyssa Alston, and sophomore Abby West.
Driving in two RBIs each were Alston, freshman Jade Fowler, and sophomore Hayley Stevens. Hulsey dominated in the circle, earning the win with eight Lady Cardinal strikeouts.
