Star Staff Reports

Shelby County Election Day is August 4 and early voting runs July 15-30. Do some homework before you head out to vote!  It’s an incredibly long ballot and is both a General and Primary election.  To vote in the primary you will need to declare a political party.

The General election has very important local positions; mayor, district attorney, sheriff, county commission, school board and many more. Of equal importance are the 40-plus county criminal, general sessions, circuit , juvenile court judges.  Many of the judicial positions have multiple candidates.

The Primary is for governor, U.S. House, Tennessee Senate and House.

Two ways to prepare for voting:

1. An app run by the state called GoVoteTN. (https://sos.tn.gov/govotetn )

You can preview your ballot, research the candidates & actually mark your personal selections on the app.  Whether you vote early or on election day, you are permitted to use this app as your guide while making your selections at the voting machine.

2. Print a sample ballot, make your selections and bring this paperwork to voting to use as your guide.

On both GoVoteTN app & electionsshelbytn.gov you can check your voter status, early voting locations, and election day precinct location.
