Star Staff Reports

On May 14, the Millington Municipal Schools mailed 553 letters to the parents of students who had requested an out-of-district transfer into one of our schools. This letter instructed these parents to have their child’s school administrator complete a form indicating whether or not their child had been expelled during the 2013-2014 school year. The letter then instructed parents to return the signed disciplinary form along with a copy of their child’s final report card to us. MMS will use these documents in determining whether or not we will grant the out-of-district transfer request. Also in the letter, MMS informed parents that we would notify them by July 1 whether or not their child will be granted the out-of-district transfer request for the 2014-2015 school year.

As of June 18, MMS had received 281 of these forms. MMS did not hear from 258 parents of out-of-district students who had previously indicated a desire for their child to attend one of our schools.

The deadline for these forms was June 13. We are continuing to receive a handful of these forms each day. The “final” deadline to accept the forms will be June 25, which will allow us the time needed to notify the parents by July 1, as stated in the letter.
