On July 23, Tipton County Sheriff’s Office received information that the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office Substation located on Centennial Island Road (Tipton County Island located across the Mississippi River in Arkansas) had burned overnight.

Detectives and State of Tennessee Fire Investigators responded to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.  During the investigation it was determined that the fire was ruled an arson due to the use of accelerants within and around the structure.

The substation was a donation from the Wunderwich and Treadwell families in June 2008.  The substation was destroyed in the 2011 floods and was rebuilt.  The substation provided the Sheriff’s Office personnel a location to conduct investigations due to the geographical location in relations to Tipton County. The Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office as first responders to initial complaints and assist detectives when there are ongoing investigations.

“Detectives have been investigating a rash of thefts and methamphetamine complaints since April on the Island.  We have developed some suspects in these cases but no arrests have been made at the time of the Substation being burned.  We need the help of citizens on the Island and in Mississippi County, Arkansas to assist detectives with providing any information in the arson investigations.  The efforts of the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office will not be lessened due to the burning of the substation.  We will use every resource to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible.  A cash reward will be offered if we receive a tip resulting in an arrest in the case.”

If anyone has information in this case, please call the Criminal Investigations Division at 475-3300, Central Dispatch after hours at 475-4300, phone in tips at 475-3307, email tips to [email protected] or Facebook Sheriff J.T. Pancho Chumley.”
