Zach Camp

In a come-from-behind fashion, the Brighton Cardinals improve to 4-1 on the season beating the Overton Wolverines 21-18. The seesaw battle started Friday night in Halle Stadium with the Wolverines taking a 6-0 lead courtesy of a Raheem Haynes TD run. Brighton’s Zach Camp gave the Cardinals the lead in the second quarter when he gathered up a fumble and raced 68 yards for a touchdown. Trailing 7-6, Overton regained the lead in the quarter when Haynes scored again, this time from 4 yards out. Behind 12-7, the Cardinals grabbed the advantage before halftime when Lance West capped off a drive with a 2-yard TD. Brighton was ahead 14-12 at the break. The only score of the third quarter came when Overton’s Jalen Burress scored on a 1-yard run. The Wolverines (1-5) were ahead 18-14. The combination of Malik to Malik would be the final score of the night. The Brighton connection of Malik Jackson to Malik Matthews for a 67-yard touchdown pass was good enough for the victory 21-18. The Cardinals return home this Friday to host Memphis Central.

IN OTHER ACTION: The Munford Cougars were in blowout mode again Friday night beating the Bolton Wildcats 56-21.

The Cougars improve to 6-0 on the season. There will be a battle of the Cougars this Friday night in Munford when the Kirby Cougars come to town.
