The Brighton Cardinals came out firing for the 2013 season racking up 59 points against the Carver Cobras. With a balance offensive attack on the Brighton Football Stadium turf compiling 361 yards, the Cardinals defeated Carver 59-6. Blue Curry started the scoring with a 99-yard kickoff return. Then from a shorter distance, Curry scored on a 3-yard run makoing the score 14-0. Then Cardinal senior quarterback Colton Hathcock found receiver Kolton Childress for an 18-yard TD pass. After Brighton defender Nick Easley had a 30-yard pick-six, Carver finally got on the board with a fumble recovery score. Brighton got back on the offensive attack still in the first quarter when Hathcock hit T-Wayne White from 8-yards out. The first half ended with an Austin Chapman field goal of 43 yards giving Brighton a 38-6 halftime lead. The Cardinal received three touchdown runs in the second half from  Zach Ballard, Austin Breedland and Antonio Peete. Brighton will welcome the Millington Trojans (0-1) to town this Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff. In other area action, the Munford Cougars watch their season-opener slip away as the rival Covington Chargers pulled away for a 29-8 win.

The Cougars return to action this Friday at 7 p.m. against Manassas.
