News coming out of Afghanistan last week devastated the world. With the tragedy fresh on the hearts of the NJROTC staff and students at Millington Central Middle High School, the pregame routine before Friday night’s M&M Bowl against the rival Munford Cougars was a chance to pay tribute to those loss.
The grass of Mooney Boswell Field presented the platform for the Millington NJROTC to recognize the situation in Kabul, Afghanistan.
The colors were presented by the MCMHS NJROTC Color Guard of left guard Cadet Chief Petty Officer Wyatt Barber, carrying the ensign was Cadet Lieutenant Marissa Cecil, carrying the U.S. Navy Flag was Cadet Lieutenant Commander Lucas Wardlow and right guard was Cadet Lieutenant Eduardo Ortiz.
After the national anthem was completed, hearts and eyes were directed to the south end of the stadium. As a mark of respect of the U.S. service members and other victims killed in the terrorist attack on Aug. 26 in Kabul, the Commander-in-Chief ordered the United States flag be flown at half-staff until sunset on Aug. 30. Battalion Executive Officer Cadet Commander Nicholas Moore lowered the flag to half-staff.
