All the entities that help the city of Millington operate, grow and create was represented under one roof last Thursday afternoon.
The 2020 City of Millington Appreciation Luncheon was held at the Baker Community Center with an official welcome from Mayor Terry Jones. For the second year in a row, the meal was catered by Rick Laxton Caters of Munford. Rick and his crew prepared a baked chicken dish with lima beans, sweet potato casserole and a large soft roll. The dessert was handed out for the staff of the City of Millington during City Manager Ed Haley’s address at the podium.
As guests ate either banana pudding or peach cobbler, Haley reflected on the sustained growth and development in Millington. Jones noted all the construction on roads and improving infrastructure.
Haley shined a spotlight on the increased residential homes coming to Flag City. Beckham Place has sold it’s 48 lots and more is coming.
Haley and developer Paul Frazier outlined current and future projects like the 82 lots at Thornhill Estates, the 94 acres at the corner of Quito and Shelby Road, a complex to be built across from Centennial Park off Navy Road and additions homes tallying around 200 future homes in Millington.
Haley extended “thank yous” and short stories about almost every person in the room. From former Mayor George Harvell to the current police and fire chiefs Mark Dunbar to Gary Graves, Haley expressed his gratitude to the leaders of Millington.
Represented during the day were the Millington School Board, Millington Municipal Schools, Planning Commission, Aldermen, Industrial Development Board, USA Stadium, Millington Chamber of Commerce and many more.
“Thank you for coming and for your contributions and service to our city,” he said. “Together we are partners for progress. As we strive to encourage growth and welcome newcomers. Merry Christmas and happy New Year.”
