The second season of high school football starts for many teams Friday. Some teams get a first round bye while others are packing it up until next season and gearing up the round ball.
It is an exciting time for most schools and especially the fans.
I congratulate all those teams entering the playoffs. Some will make long road trips. Typically, the further they make it into the playoffs the longer the road trips. Of course those in the top half of the brackets are rewarded with home games sometimes as far as three or four rounds.
The playoffs are money makers for the schools but more so for the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA). It would be interesting to see how much money comes into the TSSAA from the playoffs and what percent they keep as opposed to what the participating schools split.
I congratulate all those teams that will be competing in the playoffs, no matter how far they go.
When the season began I was one of those who questioned how long the season could last. Countless games were forfeited 1-0 because of COVID-19.
The high school football season was a positive step toward fighting the virus. In my opinion people were ready to get out and attend something and high school sports is a natural.
Half the the teams entering the playoffs will live to play another round while the season ends for the other half. All teams except the state champions will lose their last game of 2020.
Read about the playoffs in your local newspaper.
After all, life is better with a (local) newspaper.
