The BHS boys’ and girls’ golf team competed at the District and Regional golf tournaments at Pickwick Landing Golf Course with the girl’s team finishing first in both tournaments and the boy’s team taking fourth at District and playing as individuals in Region competition.  Senior Aubree Jones (fourth from the left) led the way for the Lady Cardinals finishing as low medalist in both tournaments firing 77/67 and Tess Hendrickson (fourth from the right) fired 90/93 finishing second & third low medalist in each tournament.  Junior Brett Wilkins (third from the left) shot 77/78 at each tournament winning District low medalist and qualifying as an individual for next week’s state tournament.  (Also pictured from the left are BHS Coach Kim Greer, Robert Amundson, Parker Mallard, Caden Bingham and Grant Hunter).

The Brighton High School Girls’ Golf team coached by Kim Greer took first place in the TSSAA Division I Region 7-3A Golf Tournament held at the Pickwick Landing Golf Course Monday with a team score of 160. Brighton senior, Aubree Jones posted a 67 and was the low medalist for the Region tournament and junior Tess Hendrickson finished second medalist shooting a 93 at Region. “It was two really beautiful days to play golf,” Greer said. “The course was in great shape and the Hardin County golf team always does a great job coordinating the tournament with the PLGC head pro and staff. In boys’ Reigonal action, Brighton junior Brett Wilkins fired a 78 playing as an individual and will also represent BHS at next week’s TSSAA Divsion I State Tournament.

Senior Aubree Jones will be playing in her final TSSAA Division I State Tournament and junior Tess Hendrickson her third straight.  Jones will bring in a personal record of two first place individual wins (as a freshman and sophomore) and one second place finish last season.

Jones is the TGA third ranked junior female golfer in the state of Tennessee and future Mississippi State Bulldog.
“I’m ready to finish my BHS career with one more top finish as an individual and as a team,” said Jones.  “Tess is improving every tournament and if we both play our best we might just bring home some extra hardware for Coach Greer to hang on the BHS wall of fame.”

The 2016 TSSAA State Golf Championships will be held Oct. 11 and 12 at WillowBrook Golf Club in Manchester.
BRIGHTON GOLF FACTS:

– BHS Golf has been represented in the TSSAA Division I AAA State Golf Championships from 2004 thru 2016 (as a team & individuals) 13 in a row.

– In 2009, both the boys and girls teams won District & Region and went to State for the first time in BHS history.

(Just getting to State as an individual or part of a team is an experience that players and coaches will always remember. But this record, this streak (which is very much alive today) is truly a phenomenal record. If you think about it, how many players & coaches can say they even went to the State level in any sport just one time, let alone 13 times in a row.)

– Coach Kim Greer (and wife Jackie) has done an outstanding job keeping the streak alive and well after they stepped in to fill the shoes of Coach Barry White (and wife Anne) that helped begin the State Streak back in 2003-04.

–  Many players like Jesper Swendenborg, Britt Sanford, Nolan Kirby, Anna McIntyre, London Hill, Max Sanford, Kara Glover, Tyler Hendrickson, Aubree Jones, Garrett Perry, Tess Hendrickson, Jacob Glover, Brianna Donnell, Jon Francis, Carson McKinney, Logan Watkins, Taylor Hendrickson, Daniel Glover, Kyle Johnson and Brett Wilkins had a lot to do with it too, and the list goes on.
