Brighton Lady Cardinal Savannah Dickerson goes after the ball aggressively as Millington’s Karyme Brooks defends last week at USA Stadium.

The Brighton Lady Cardinals have broken the 2016 season into sections. Their visit to USA Stadium in Millington last Thursday was a part of the pre-district build up. The Lady Cardinals took care of business against the host Millington Lady Trojans 6-0 to prepare for upcoming league games against Dyer County and Brighton. The district schedule will set up Brighton’s and Head Coach Shari Garrett’s postseason run in October. “Season has been going well for us,” Brighton captain Rylee Moore said. “We’re glad to get back on track. Our record is 6 wins and 3 losses. “Our toughest challenge, eventually working together and talking to each other,” she added. “We have to communicate.” The communication was working well against the Lady Trojans jumping out to a 4-0 lead before halftime. The first Brighton goal came courtesy of a penalty kick when Haley Miller blasted the ball through the net. The Lady Cardinal lead grew to 2-0 when Savannah Dickerson scored off an assist from Lila Lumpkin. Millington fell behind 3-0 moments later when Lady Cardinal Tiffany Ann Ragsdell scored. Then Brighton went ahead 4-0 when Haylee Carlew cashed in on a penalty kick. “We were talking and connecting our passes,” Moore said. “We were speaking to each other and moving. We were doing things like that.” The Lady Cardinals added a couple of insurance goals courtesy of Dickerson and Lumpkin. “District is coming up,” Moore said. “We’re working on our physicality making sure we’re prepared for them to be rough.

“As captain, making sure I communicate with my players and keep their spirits up,” she concluded. “Make sure everything is running smoothly.”
