Lady Cougars capture district soccer title

The Munford Lady Cougars Soccer won the District 13-3A championship regular season. Then in tournament play the Lady Cougars followed that with a win against Jackson North Side on Oct. 16 in double overtime.

Then to capture the District Tournament championship Munford downed Brighton 3-1.  The game was a tale of two halves when Munford came out and scored three goals in the first half, then held on to get the victory.

Munford scoring came when Maggie Billings put a shot in the back of the net off a rebound from a shot from Christin Smith.  The second goal came from a corner from Smith and Ruth Hull found the net in a crowd to claim her first goal of the season.

The final goal in the first half and for Munford came when Falone McLure dribbled up and put a long pass from midfield through the middle to a running Billings.

Billings was able to put a move on the goalie and shoot from the left side to give Munford a 3-0 lead.

In the second half Brighton came out on fire and was moving the ball at will.  They were unable to get on the board until the 63rd minute when Hannah Whitefoot put a shot in the right side of the goal to put the score at 3-1.

Brighton was unable to score past Munford’s defense and the final was 3-1.  Munford goalie, Alex Selby recorded 11 saves with most of those coming in the second half.

The Lady Cougars’ record was moved to 13-5-1 and Munford played Bartlett in the first round of Region 7-3A Tournament Tuesday.
