The Millington Lady Trojan Volleyball team made history tonight reaching the Sub-State round for the first time.
But the night in the William Osteen Gymnasium ended on a sour note for the host Lady Trojans dropping the Region 8-2A championship contest to the Covington Lady Chargers.
The tournament began with Millington taking on the Douglass Lady Red Devils in the Regional Semifinals. Sparked by 15 serves in a row by Paige Hall, the Lady Trojans took the first set 25-3. Douglass competed better in the next two sets but were defeated 25-14 and 25-12. With the victory, Millington locked up a spot in this Thursday’s Sub-State round.
Covington played the Craigmont Lady Chiefs in the other Regional Semifinals winning in three sets. The Lady Chargers’ win set up a rematch of the District 15-2A title game from last week that Millington won in three sets.
This time Covington won in three sets 25-13, 25-18 and 25-16 to win the Region title. The Lady Chargers will host a Sub-State game against Jackson South Side Thursday night at 7 p.m. Meanwhile the Millington Lady Trojans will travel to the Region 7-2A champions Dyersburg.
