LETTER TO EDITOR: Consider ’96 Trojan Football for Hall of Fame

Dear Editor,

I am submitting this recommendation for the 1996 Millington Central High Football Team to be nominated to the MCHS Athletic HOF. On November 8, 1996, our football team made MCHS history by winning its first ever playoff game in defeating Central High School 28-6.  That advanced us to the second round, where we lost to MBA. As I am sure it is protocol, please verify this against school records, but we were told that Millington had never won/advanced in the TSSAA football playoffs.  MCHS had made it to the first round before, but never advanced until the 1996 season.

Please consider this nomination for the 1996 MCHS Football Team for its record breaking season.  I have attached archived articles, from The Commercial Appeal archives, supporting this submission plus the picture from The Millington Star issued Nov. 13, 1996.  In the Millington Star article, it also states “In fact, Friday’s 28-6 win over Memphis Central at Crump Stadium is the most significant game in the history of the Millington football program.  For the first time, the Trojans advanced past the first round of the state playoffs.”
