Star Staff Reports

Millington Municipal Schools released some good news last week.

“I’m very proud to officially share it with you,  Millington Municipal Schools has improved from a Level 1 TVAAS district a year ago to a Level 5 this year,” said Director of Schools James “Bo” Griffin.

This is the Tennessee Department of Education’s highest rating for school districts.

“Our students experienced growth in every subject and grade band, including double-digit improvements in English/Language Arts (ELA) and Math,” he noted. “This is a testament to the leadership and support of you, our Board, and the commitment of our staff, students, families, and this community as a whole to work hard and achieve our best.”

In addition to an overall Level 5 rating, MMSD earned a Level 5 in Literacy, Numeracy, Science, and Social Studies.

There was also a double-digit increase in the percentage of students who met or exceeded expectations in both ELA (+10 percentage points) and Math (+12 percentage points).

Additionally, Millington Intermediate School and Millington Central Middle/High School each earned a Level 5 rating, while Millington Primary School moved from a Level 1 to a Level 4.
