[/media-credit] MPL Director Brian Miller thanks Pat Luttrell for bringing her art work to Millington for a two day exhibition. The activity room of the Millington Public Library was decorated this past weekend with artwork of Pat Luttrell.
The wife of Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell brought 14 pieces of oil paintings depicting landscapes, animals and still shots. The event organized by local author Otis Griffin and sponsored by Patriot Bank, Sam’s Club, C’s Jewelry and Cary and Lalania Vaughn gave local students and residents a chance to see the artist side of Luttrell.
“This has gone great,” Luttrell said at the conclusion of day one. “Otis has gone all out planning this, his wife and his sister have made this a great event to have. And it’s good publicity for the Library.”
The two-day event brought in hundreds to view the work and get a chance to speak to Luttrell. The Friday and Saturday also gave the Millington Public Library the platform to introduce several of its activities and introduce the Studio 13.
“I want to help the Library kick off all it’s activities and be a part of that,” Luttrell said.
MPL Director Brian Miller said having Luttrell come out and donate her time to speak to schools like Millington, Bolton, Tipton-Rosemark Academy and Barrett’s Chapel was an important boost for the Library.
“She’s so humble,” he said. “So we’re very grateful we were able to pursue her to come out here and showcase her work. It also shows she has a really big heart and she provides the same kind of support that we want to provide for the community in showcasing local talent.”
The students and residents who visited the exhibit got a chance to hear about activities at the Library like GED classes, computer classes, Millington Science Fiction Writers Guild and MPL Art for All Ages.
Miller and staff are introducing MPL Studio 13 featuring baseline equipment that is available for children and anyone to come in and use the studio to do their own production work. All the Library asks is if they share the content with its web site.
The multi-media outfit will be showcased on channels found on MillingtonPublicLibrary.com. The channels will be MPL Minutes, MPL Juke Box, MPL Teen Magazine and MPL Story Time. The channels will feature local music and local news. Miller describes it as a modest studio reminiscent of the WGMM 1380 facility that used to stand at the corner of Church Street and Navy Road.
“We’re just trying to bring some of that back which is not really new to Millington,” Miller said.
He added the Art Exhibit of Luttrell was the ideal way to bring recognition to previous Library services and the new studio.
” Someone of Pat’s stature is very special for us,” Miller noted. “On top of that we’ve learn a whole lot of depth about her. What was really neat was as the kids came through, they were really interested in what she was sharing with them.
“Like Otis was saying, we got goose bumps with some of the kids coming back after school to talk to her and wanting to know about her studio and what’s going on here,’ he concluded. “That’s what it’s all about here today, connecting with those kids. They are the future of the Library.”
