The special guest invited to kick off the festivities of the Great American Guaranteed Million event at the Memphis International Raceway last month was the Millington Central High School Marching Band.

Those same students will be a part of the 2020 City of Millington Veteran’s Day Parade this Saturday starting at 10:30 a.m. Through the challenges of a global pandemic, the MCHS Band has still found ways to perform and represent their school and city.

Band Director Kreston Smith and crew made their way out to the motorsports park Oct. 9 in Millington under cloudy skies to bring some cheer to the participants and spectators.

Before playing the National Anthem, the students performed a few show tunes to get the crowd hype and prepared for the time trials. The race was promoted by Gaylon Rollison and Britt Cummings. MIR presented the MCHS Band with a check for $500 before performing.

“We’re so grateful to be invited here and have the opportunity to perform,” Smith said. “Thank you to all who were involved and made this possible.”

The 2020-21 Millington Central High School Band members are drum major Gena Ann Parker, Caleb Plunk, Taliyah Chalmers, Noel Rostro, Jerry Theuns, Emily Parsons, Mallory Howard, Noah Escue, Krista Reedy, William Howard IV, Aniyah Moore, Yarely Carrera, Christian Wallace, Morgan Sharp, Maggie Escue, Chloe Brewer, Blair Waldon, Maya Carter, Christina Cook, Ethan Stafford, Jaylen Carver, Evan Loo, Allison Kiefer, Peyton Pace, Daniel Young, Taniya Chisum, Jeremiah Moore, Tyler Bryson, Iwalani Friskillo, Taylor Sherrill, Andrew Carlsen, Jacob Lovejoy, Elizabeth Vazquez, Telise Deener, Vivian Ward, Nathan Dickson, Amy Kincaid, Ryan Winans and Verimayian Britt.
