The battle of Tipton County started off in the Munford Cougars’ favor.

In front of the home crowd in the Munford Football stadium, Chaz Hayes spotted the Cougars a 6-0 lead with a 26-yard TD run slightly more than 3 minutes into the game. But the Brighton Cardinals responded with athlete Malik Mathews. The Cardinal senior scored twice in the first half sparking his team to a 33-18 victory.

Trailing 6-0, Mathews broke loose for a 64-yard touchdown run on a fourth down and 1 yard situation.

Later in the first half, the Cardinal defense forced a fumble leading to a Mathews 9-yard TD scamper.

Brighton led 19-6 at halftime. The Cardinals increased their advantage to 26-6 in the third quarter.

Then the Cougars cut the deficit to 26-12. Brighton iced the game scoring to make its lead 33-12. One more Munford score made the final 33-18

Brighton will host Bolton next week to conclude the 2016 regular season. Meanwhile the Cougars will travel to Memphis to take on the Central Warriors next Friday.
