The Millington Education Foundation gathered several Millington dignitaries and employees of Millington Municipal Schools for the Third Annual MMS Grant Presentations.
More than 100 applications were received by the MEF for consideration with 33 grants being handed out in the E.A. Harrold Library this afternoon. Nearly $20,000 was divided among E.A. Harrold, Millington Elementary, Millington Middle and Millington Central High schools.
MMS Superintendent Dr. David Roper expressed gratitude on behalf of the schools and their principals Mandy Compton (E.A. Harrold), Kathy Wilson (Millington Elementary), Selina Sparkman (Millington Middle) and Clint Durley (Millington Central High).
MEF’s Cary Vaughn recognized the Millington Aldermen, Millington School Board members, Millington Area Chamber of Commerce and Mayor Terry Jones in attendance for the ceremony. After snacks were enjoyed, it was time to give out the $19,926.44 raised by the MEF to the four schools.
E.A. Harrold received $5,001.65 for programs ranging from Versa Tiles Victory to Lessons in Literacy. MCHS picked up $4,150 for purposes like strength training classes and Hands on Math.
At Millington Elementary Schools, teachers received $4,556.90 for things ranging from The Game Plan to Leveled Reader Sets. And at Millington Middle School, the teachers racked up $6,217.89 for DBQ Project to Informational Text Support.
The MEF Grant Committee was able to give away the most money in history, nearly $20,000, because of the success of the traditional fund raisers. The annual trivia night will be held Jan. 7, 2017 and a dance will be held in April.
